Is your transition to parenthood not turning out the way you imagined? Are anxiety, depression, or issues from your past interfering with you becoming the parent you know you can be? My specialty is Perinatal Mental Health, and I provide support to parents at all points in their parenting journey. You may be pregnant or postpartum, dealing with anxiety or depression. Or perhaps extended family members are making it difficult for you to establish healthy boundaries around your new family. Maybe you’ve chosen to parent peacefully, but are struggling with what that means, and how to balance your needs with those of your child(ren).

Sometimes a person knows that they need help, but seeking that assistance during one's greatest hour of need can feel overwhelming. Whether you're dealing with pain, loss, life transitions, or simply feeling "off," therapy can be a place where you can slow down, get in touch with yourself, and receive helpful insight from a professional in a nonjudgemental environment. Individuals who work with me can feel confident that they have a therapist who cares just as much about helping them find solutions as they do about simply sitting with them in their darkest moments. It's my job to help you get where you want to go, at your own pace.

Despite your best efforts, life is unknowable - you can't always predict or be prepared for what comes your way. You might need help sorting out what's going on. As a therapist, I have learned that we are not alone in our struggles. People hurt together, and we also must heal together. Through our relationships and experiences, we can grow and rediscover what we thought was once lost. I want to help you down that path of discovery while using psychotherapeutic approaches such as attachment theory, AEDP, IFS, interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB), Somatic Experiencing, and EMDR.

Early in life we learn to disconnect from our bodies and emotions in order to survive and adapt to the environment. Overtime, this manifests as patterns of behavior and self-rejection that though were once adaptive, now only keep us stuck. These patterns typically manifest as anxiety, depression, self-hatred, toxic shame, addictions, obsessions, compulsions, codependency and relationship problems. I work experientially in the moment to get to the root of what is getting in the way of desired experiences on an identity level. Many clients describe this process as a gradual “coming home” or reconnection to their authentic self.

Clients often describe my presence as calming and supportive, noting that our work together has led to meaningful change. For some, this transformation came after years of therapy that offered insight but lacked actionable steps. EMDR is a powerful tool that provides clients with the resources to achieve lasting change. I am trained in EMDR, the Gottman Method, and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. Additionally, I regularly attend advanced training in Complex PTSD, dissociative disorders, and relationship dynamics.

Do you ever find yourself caught in a cycle of facing challenges related to your anxiety, relationships, and self-exploration, no matter what else is happening in your life? You may be fed up with the tight grip of anxiety, and feeling the erosion of your self-confidence. Making it difficult to navigate relationships with the openness and authenticity you desire. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to forge connections with others who understand and appreciate you for who you are. Most of all, you’re ready to feel empowered.

In facing change, we may be forced to grow. I am here to help you grow AND hold a safe space for you to do so. I strive to provide direction as you navigate, understand, and explore who you are and who you aspire to be. An important component in this work is being kind to ourselves. We cannot facilitate change without first implementing self-compassion.

You're savvy and high achieving, maybe even an expert in helping others, but your own anxiety, sensitivity, and self-criticism are things you haven't been able to overcome on your own. You're used to minimizing your adversities and traumas by saying things like "that's just life," and "other people have it worse." Still, your stress is wearing on you, and while you hate to admit it, it's affecting your relationships, too. There's a part of you that's curious if you can exist in the world a bit differently- maybe feel the hard stuff without getting stuck in it, and maybe feel a greater sense of self worth along the way.

You’ve always been the strong one, right? But lately, you haven’t been feeling so sturdy - your moods are all over the place, your attention or motivation has drifted, and you just want to feel better. Maybe you just need to vent. Maybe you’re having difficulty trusting someone enough to show that vulnerability because of past trauma. That’s ok! You have taken the most courageous step by asking for help, and that is exactly where I will meet you.

You've taken the courageous first step of looking for support. You never thought you'd end up here... feeling overwhelmed, emotional, and exhausted. You're not sure who you are anymore, and you don't feel like you can push through, ignore, or compartmentalize these feelings any longer. Maybe it started recently after a birth, a fertility struggle, a loss, relationship change, trauma, or life transition. Maybe it started much earlier in life. Either way, this territory feels difficult for you, and you're ready to give yourself what you find so much easier to give to others... HELP.

Humans are wired for social connection; we learn how to survive in the world based on the relational experiences we've had throughout our lifetime. Sometimes, these patterns of interaction become ingrained in our brains and bodies and prevent us from authentically connecting with ourselves and others. Through our work together, we will shift these patterns into more adaptive ways of being, work toward emotional regulation, and develop a positive view of self and others.

Being neurodivergent, queer, and/or women+ comes with challenges of all sorts, including systemic barriers. We will prioritize your needs (yes, you do need rest!) and identify tools (structure, flexibility, and more!) that work for you. Let's take down unrealistic capitalist expectations, and create healthy boundaries and balanced relationships and start living with confidence and joy. If you’re a parent on top of that, you have even more need to reflect on your childhood and practice the care you want to teach your kids! In our work together, we will sift through old patterns and discover the free, aligned person you want to be.

You were taught to tear yourself down, aim low, and use all your energy to take care of others while leaving nothing for yourself. Do you know that Spirit has a plan for you that’s bigger than this? No wonder your mind's driving you crazy! Our image-obsessed society is deeply afraid of the wild creative potential of our emotions. The real problem is NOT that you’re weak! It’s that you don’t trust yourself to be powerful. Imagine how amazing your life could be if you learned to channel all that crazy-making energy into finding yourself, feeling good, and fulfilling your deepest calling.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
