Sometimes people are not sure what they need to help them live a productive, mentally healthy and happy life. That could be from issues of the past or present difficulties they are facing. My goal is to assist them to find the solutions they need to continue on in a healthy manner discovering how to face and conquer the issues of the past and/or of the present and future.

My name is Maria Nowlin. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Music Therapist, National Certified Counselor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. My practice specialty includes maternal mental health and trauma. I work with moms in all aspects of the motherhood journey. This can look like postpartum anxiety/depression, struggles with infertility, feeling overwhelmed with daily tasks, having no time for self-care, or parenting struggles. I also work with adults who have experienced trauma or are struggling to overcome complex trauma.

I am a Licensed Psychologist with specialized training in the evaluation of autism, learning disabilities, intellectual, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and behavioral difficulties. I treat adults, adolescents and children. I have a holistic/integrative approach which focuses on the relationship between mind, body, and spirit attempting to understand and address the ways issues in one aspect of a person can lead to concerns in other areas. With an integrative approach to mental health and wellness, I am available to collaborate with your other health providers (e.g., psychiatrists, holistic/alternative/functional medicine doctors).

Asking for help can be difficult, but is a sure sign of strength. Finding the right therapist is the first step in getting the help you need. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, or trauma related issues, or are having trouble managing your emotions and relationships, I can help. I have just short of twenty years experience collaborating with clients to find solutions for areas of difficulty in their life as well as helping them identify and cultivate their own strengths. I am eager to meet with you to develop your own, unique treatment plan.

I have been a mental health and addictions psychotherapist for the past eighteen years. During this time I have worked in both outpatient and inpatient settings with children, adolescents and adults. Much of my adult work has been dedicated to working with women with a variety of issues but heavily oriented around those originating in trauma. I work with PTSD, mood disorders, couples issues, and parent-child issues. I have developed skills in working with parenting, addictions, relationship building and conflict resolution and particularly building and rebuilding attachment. I have also been involved in training, consulting, and supervision over the years.

As a Clinical Neuropsychologist, I have been testing toddlers, children, adolescents and college students in Houston for over 10 years. A neuropsychological evaluation diagnoses learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, attention problems, language disorders, giftedness, emotional issues, and behavior issues by integrating testing with medical, academic and developmental history. Testing can also help educators and parents have a better understanding of a child's learning style and processing strengths and weaknesses. The goal of an assessment is to provide useful diagnostic information and targeted practical recommendations. Dr. Raizner works regularly with local schools, clinical psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and physicians.

I want to start by wanting to meet you where you are during your life crisis and help you feel whole, secure, and safe. Together we can build rapport and trust which will be the foundation to recovery. I believe each individual has a purpose in life and is born with potential. Many of life’s circumstances can crush the spirit, the strength to rebound is inside you. I believe in a wholesome approach and will tailor your sessions according to your needs. I will provide you with a safe space, where you can be yourself and be completely accepted which will move to a path of healing peace, and restoration.

My philosophy of therapy is that each person has a unique life path. While much of the time we can navigate confidently on our own, sometimes we encounter situations that make life difficult. Therapists are change agents. My role as your therapist is to work with you to explore your life and set goals you want to achieve. Over our sessions, we will work together to explore areas and sort through your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. The counseling process is not without risks; however, the good news is that the benefits can include a greater overall sense of happiness, fulfillment, and satisfaction.

I always like to say God gave me children early in my adult life because I was meant to help children in their own life struggles. I fully believe that God has plans for us even if we do not fully understand them! When our children face struggles that we cannot understand or feel equipped to help them with, we can feel lost and overwhelmed. Children and adolescents are often placed in situation and have experiences that are out of their control.

By providing a sincere, trusting, and nonjudgmental relationship with my clients, we can build a relationship that will help the client achieve their goal. Personal growth is the goal, and therapy is a positive tool that assists us to identify our strengths, personal success, and the areas where we could benefit from growth.

Trauma is overwhelming you and your anxiety is out of control. The disturbing memories invade your thoughts and disrupt your sense of well being. You may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety, fear, irritability, flashbacks, shame, helplessness, depression, closing off of emotions, numbness, sleep disturbance and fatigue. Traumas have hijacked your thoughts and stolen your hopes and dreams of a normal, happy life. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and an EMDR therapist, I am specially trained to work with clients who are experiencing emotional disturbance from unprocessed trauma.

Stemming from my desire to help people and our communities, I have served in restorative justice and community development to help cultivate individuals and watch them flourish within their communities.

I'm a LPC Associate who is passionate about providing counseling that is inclusive, diverse, and accessible. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with concerns regarding anxiety, depression, domestic abuse, educational and learning disabilities, OCD, self-esteem, self-harm, and stress. I'm also bilingual and specialize in working with immigrants and the LGBTQIA+ population. I understand therapy can be intimidating, which is why I strive to be gender affirming, sexuality affirming, anti-racist, and culturally mindful in determining an effective therapeutic approach.
