Hi! My name is Ruth Roberts and I am licensed as a Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 23 years of clinical experience. I am able to treat a variety of mental health disorders for individuals, families, and couples such as anxiety, depression, stress management, coping skills, emotional regulation, and trauma. My approach to therapy is based on the evidence-based perspective of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) such as Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).

Sometimes people are not sure what they need to help them live a productive, mentally healthy and happy life. That could be from issues of the past or present difficulties they are facing. My goal is to assist them to find the solutions they need to continue on in a healthy manner discovering how to face and conquer the issues of the past and/or of the present and future.

My name is Maria Nowlin. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Music Therapist, National Certified Counselor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. My practice specialty includes maternal mental health and trauma. I work with moms in all aspects of the motherhood journey. This can look like postpartum anxiety/depression, struggles with infertility, feeling overwhelmed with daily tasks, having no time for self-care, or parenting struggles. I also work with adults who have experienced trauma or are struggling to overcome complex trauma.

Do you suffer from trauma due to sexual abuse, abusive relationships, unresolved childhood trauma, and/or generational trauma? We hold on to that trauma in their Physical bodies without knowing. This and the emotional trauma an individual endures show up in our lives even when the action is over. Every relationship is affected as well as how we show up in our lives with work and other activities. This can show up in an abundance of ways. Deep down, we know something is off and want to heal and show up differently; however, we don't know how.

When working with my clients, I utilize various therapeutic approaches and modalities to achieve predetermined goals. I also strive to work together with my clients to face challenging situations and life stressors, in hopes of achieving a more fulfilling and meaningful life. One of the main goals I hope to achieve when working with my clients is for them to become the best version of themselves. I want my clients to know that during the process of personal growth, I am with them every step of the way.

I started my career in mental health as a mental health technician for PEAK Behavioral Hospital in 2006. I then became a Qualified Mental Health Professional/Case Manager for Texana Center for 8 years in 2007. I then became a behavioral health counselor at Eating Recovery Center-Houston with clients struggling with various eating disorders, followed by becoming a therapist for two different PHP/IOP programs, one for adults and the other for adolescents. Finally, I have experience working for a private practice and now my own private practice with clients who struggle with stress, domestic violence, parenting, family conflict, etc.

Life tends to create challenges that may seem impossible to overcome. However, given the proper tools, we all have the ability to restructure our lives. My goal is to provide a collaborative approach to find a healthy balance in your life. In an environment free from judgment, I will provide a safe space where you can explore and address problems and concerns in your life.

I am a Licensed Psychologist with specialized training in the evaluation of autism, learning disabilities, intellectual, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and behavioral difficulties. I treat adults, adolescents and children. I have a holistic/integrative approach which focuses on the relationship between mind, body, and spirit attempting to understand and address the ways issues in one aspect of a person can lead to concerns in other areas. With an integrative approach to mental health and wellness, I am available to collaborate with your other health providers (e.g., psychiatrists, holistic/alternative/functional medicine doctors).

I have been a mental health and addictions psychotherapist for the past eighteen years. During this time I have worked in both outpatient and inpatient settings with children, adolescents and adults. Much of my adult work has been dedicated to working with women with a variety of issues but heavily oriented around those originating in trauma. I work with PTSD, mood disorders, couples issues, and parent-child issues. I have developed skills in working with parenting, addictions, relationship building and conflict resolution and particularly building and rebuilding attachment. I have also been involved in training, consulting, and supervision over the years.

As a Clinical Neuropsychologist, I have been testing toddlers, children, adolescents and college students in Houston for over 10 years. A neuropsychological evaluation diagnoses learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, attention problems, language disorders, giftedness, emotional issues, and behavior issues by integrating testing with medical, academic and developmental history. Testing can also help educators and parents have a better understanding of a child's learning style and processing strengths and weaknesses. The goal of an assessment is to provide useful diagnostic information and targeted practical recommendations. Dr. Raizner works regularly with local schools, clinical psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and physicians.

Seeking help is a sign of strength and a first step toward self-determination. I believe our past does not have to define nor limit us. We have the choice to let go of ineffective habits and patterns in how we relate to ourselves and others. We can create positive outcomes by leading ourselves toward healthy changes. I will provide a safe environment for you to be heard and work collaboratively to identify your existing strengths and develop patterns of thoughts, behaviors, communication styles that can help you cope and live a more fulfilling life.

I always like to say God gave me children early in my adult life because I was meant to help children in their own life struggles. I fully believe that God has plans for us even if we do not fully understand them! When our children face struggles that we cannot understand or feel equipped to help them with, we can feel lost and overwhelmed. Children and adolescents are often placed in situation and have experiences that are out of their control.

I want to start by wanting to meet you where you are during your life crisis and help you feel whole, secure, and safe. Together we can build rapport and trust which will be the foundation to recovery. I believe each individual has a purpose in life and is born with potential. Many of life’s circumstances can crush the spirit, the strength to rebound is inside you. I believe in a wholesome approach and will tailor your sessions according to your needs. I will provide you with a safe space, where you can be yourself and be completely accepted which will move to a path of healing peace, and restoration.

Whether it's our attitude, mood, thoughts, or even habits and behaviors, when we decide to change, the process can be challenging and confusing, and sometimes hard to know where to start. That's where I come in. My mission is to support clients on their journey towards change, empower them to see possibility and purpose through goal setting, and to help them navigate life struggles in a healthy way by learning and applying appropriate coping skills.

My philosophy of therapy is that each person has a unique life path. While much of the time we can navigate confidently on our own, sometimes we encounter situations that make life difficult. Therapists are change agents. My role as your therapist is to work with you to explore your life and set goals you want to achieve. Over our sessions, we will work together to explore areas and sort through your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. The counseling process is not without risks; however, the good news is that the benefits can include a greater overall sense of happiness, fulfillment, and satisfaction.

I'm a LPC Associate who is passionate about providing counseling that is inclusive, diverse, and accessible. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with concerns regarding anxiety, depression, domestic abuse, educational and learning disabilities, OCD, self-esteem, self-harm, and stress. I'm also bilingual and specialize in working with immigrants and the LGBTQIA+ population. I understand therapy can be intimidating, which is why I strive to be gender affirming, sexuality affirming, anti-racist, and culturally mindful in determining an effective therapeutic approach.
