I've trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) regarding PTSD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), SFBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT), especially DBT skills training regarding distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness (assertiveness), integrated healthcare, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
My clinical mental health therapy practice helps people with a variety of trauma and stress histories, from PTSD, to childhood family dysfunction, to professional burnout or workplace moral injury, to experiences of racism, to overcome and recover adaptive, brave, healthy functioning, positive emotions, reasonable boundaries, beneficial coping, and cognitive perspective. I'm a licensed clinical social worker with nearly 7 years of client-facing experience, trained in NYC and Houston. I also work with people seeking relief from anxiety, depression, psychosis, and/or grief and loss experiences; and I work with young adults.

I love empowering individuals with symptoms of autism, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, ADHD, learning disorders, and twice exceptional learners (and their parents!). I worked in a local school district for several years and bring that knowledge with me into sessions to support an individual's emotional and behavioral functioning not only at home, but also at school.

In addition I use commonly understood models of CBT and DBT as it pertains to the clients well being.
I believe it is an honor to be able to work with clients during particularly challenging periods of their lives. I believe God has a purpose and a plan for each of us. Sometimes we need a time of reflection and evaluation of our perspectives to be able to move forward. Seeds of depression and anxiety can be hindering God’s best for our lives. The great news is that these can be overcome.

I have been practicing DBT since 2009 and the Katy DBT Center is among the centers that offer an adherent evidence based program.
The Katy DBT Center follows in the tradition of the Houston DBT Center in striving for excellence of care and precision in treatment of Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT). We require all of our therapists to be experienced and well trained in the implementation of Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT). DBT is an evidence-based, modern behavioral therapy originally developed to treat individuals with the then "difficult" symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Due the the advent of DBT, BPD is now a good prognosis diagnosis and individuals receiving DBT treatment may expect to eventually no longer meet criteria for BPD.

Therapies successfully used have been DBT, CBT, Solution Focused Therapy, EFT, Gottman Couples Therapy, Expressive Arts, as well as an introduction to Yoga.
While it is common to feel "unraveled" when daily stressors or various traumas occur, everyone has the ability to find meaningful solutions. I believe that everyone is unique, so the solution will be different for each person. My desire is to assist clients (ages 10-90), including adolescents, adults and couples, find a balance between a healthy need for relationship and possible psychological, social or spiritual factors within a framework of personal responsibility. After teaching English and Art for 23 years, I experienced the power of expressive arts to unlock inner voices that help students/clients achieve hope and confidence.

Let's face it, life can be stressful. That stress can become even more pronounced as you navigate new transitions like becoming an adult, moving to a new city, starting a new job, or leaving a relationship. Often times we have the answer but just need help sorting things out. Sometimes family and friends can be too close to help you identify your challenges. Sometimes THEY are the challenge. Working and trying to manage day-to-day responsibilities is no simple task. This is why I a firm believer in therapy.

In my professional as well as my personal life, I have observed that nearly every person is facing some sort of difficulty in their lives. Whether personal issues, family issues, parenting difficulties, anger, depression or lack of motivation, everyone struggles at some point in their life. What makes these difficulties potentially overwhelming is that many of us have been taught to keep our feelings to ourselves or maybe some feel as if they don't want to burden family or friends with their problems. Maybe we are fearful of being criticized, misunderstood or judged.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
