My faith-based perspective is very open, embracing spirituality as a loving and life-giving experience.
Sometimes we need a safe place to tend to our heart, a place to be heard and understood, a place to get help. I am here to provide that place for you. Perhaps you have been feeling anxious or down. Maybe you feel stuck and are needing direction or liberation or resolution in one or more areas of life. With grace and affirmation, I will work closely with you to address what is hindering you and help you move forward. I work from a person-centered approach that is tailored to your needs.

I also welcome the integration of faith and spirituality if you desire.
Hola! I’m Clarissa, and I’m thrilled to be part of the Wanda Hudson Consulting team as a Masters-level counseling intern. Oftentimes, life throws us unexpected challenges, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and unsure. I’ve been there, and I understand. My aim as a counselor is to help you unearth your strengths, find meaning, and embrace your purpose. Together, we’ll explore the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors holding you back from reaching your fullest potential. My journey into therapy began during a time where I experienced grief and anxiety. Seeking help transformed my life, instilling freedom and restoring my relationships.

Analysis and therapy help us move beyond the places we are stuck to a better understanding of who we are. I would be honored to walk with you on this journey towards your best self, offering a helping hand where needed. I work from an understanding of therapy that allows us to look at the past, the present and the future in understanding the issues you are facing and finding the path you desire to follow. I place a strong focus on exploring developmentally important emotional and relational disruptions and rely heavily on attachment theory as a conceptual grounding in my work. I have experience in working with family-of-origin concerns, religious/spiritual concerns, existential questions, relationship concerns, Adult-Children-of-Divorce, LGBTQI concerns, and difficulties with acculturation. My clients are diverse in their racial and ethnic identity, religious affiliation, social class, economic status, sexual orientation, and age. I particularly enjoy working with those who are looking to explore what is beneath their current symptoms in order to understand themselves better and enact lasting change.

Maybe you feel like the black sheep of the family, or maybe you're overwhelmed by parental pressure as an adult. Perhaps you’re feeling drained and exhausted by your current friendships. Maybe you're engaged, excited about the wedding and, of course, the honeymoon…but you also may realize there are so many things your parents didn't tell you about marriage. You want a place to talk about budgeting, future children, intimacy, and more. Maybe you are years into your marriage and struggling to keep the fire lit or feel trapped by all the long-term relational wounds and feel like you have reached the point of no return.

Intimacy is often impeded by an inability to know your self or to see yourself accurately. Often we loose that sense of self in relationships which then promotes agitation and depression. We then take on addictive behaviors to avoid feeling reality. Difficulties in childhood often does not equip us with the skills of boundaries which is the only thing that helps to maintain a sense of who we are while remaining connected in a relationship. I can help you develop the skills of being relational and still be you.

The purpose of therapy is to grow as a person and through the growth process affect changes in one’s life and relationships. As a therapist, I see my role as short term in nature, walking with people through sometimes very difficult chapters in their lives. Individual results in therapy vary, for in the final analysis the client decides their level of commitment to change and personal growth. However, the decision to begin the process of therapy is a courageous commitment to take the first step on the journey of self-discovery and growth.

My goal is to guide clients toward an acceptance of themselves, and to a heightened ability to make positive changes in their lives. Instead of avoiding feelings, denying the pain, or trying to self-medicate emotions and memories... I assist clients to discover meaning in life, even when life is painful. I also work with dreams from a Jungian perspective; your dream is about you and about your future. I also believe in the healing power of humor. I am a licensed professional counselor, counselor supervisor, and a licensed minister.

Have you been feeling stuck? When the stressors of life, tough relationships, and old baggage feel too heavy, it's time for a change. I love helping people take a step back from their current stressors to see more clearly and make holistic, lasting changes in their lives and relationships. By combining a Biblical worldview and proven psychological strategies, I have worked with individuals and couples for over a decade to help them find practical, healing solutions that fit specifically for where they're at.

I believe in the healing power of human connection within the therapeutic relationship, in which counselor and client come together to face life’s challenges. Each counseling relationship is unique, just as you and your experiences in the world are unique to you.

My role is to come alongside women of all ages in order to provide a safe place for hope, healing, and restoration to take root so that you can thrive.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Lord by coming alongside and counseling the hurting and broken. Christ and His word continue to challenge, encourage, comfort and change me. As an ambassador for Christ, I want to point others towards the God of all comfort by connecting their pain to the hope we have in our Lord that is found in scripture. I have a variety of experience in different mental health settings ranging from inpatient, residential, in-home family therapy, judicial, intensive outpatient, and outpatient treatment. I have worked locally and internationally and in the church setting.

I have years of experience, training, and research in understanding the ways repeated trauma, doubt, and dissociation affect an individual at the core of their identity. My approach is an inquisitive and engaging attempt at identifying the symptoms that make it hard for individuals to connect with themselves.

I am currently accepting new clients. I’m a firm believer that therapy can’t be ‘one size fits all.’ While there are some tried and true practices that I utilize, none of my clients’ therapy journeys will look alike because no two people are exactly alike! I am dedicated to helping my clients explore what’s not working for them, and identify the right tools for making impactful change.

Have you ever wished therapy was longer than a single session because you’re just scratching the surface? It doesn’t have to be like this forever! Invest in a Custom Trauma Therapy Intensive to get a head start while saving time and money in the long run. You don’t have the time, money, or energy to “test drive” therapists. Therapy is for you, the client, so I like to learn the preferences you want for how your sessions will go. This helps you feel at ease, heard, and understood from the start. (We start with Intensives at a higher rate then move to individual sessions but less frequently than if you were just starting.)

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
