Coping some days is easy - others, it's tough just to get out of bed. I love working with clients who are seeking to identify and change patterns in thought, communication, and relationships. My clients are individuals and couples who are experiencing struggles and roadblocks in how they view and interact with themselves and others. I enjoy helping people grow in awareness of what is causing their issues and learn how to effect change in their lives and relationships. I offer clients a safe place to experience and process their emotions, identify unhelpful patterns and learn healthy coping skills.

I’m not your typical therapist. I'm real. I'm approachable. And I don't think therapy should be some stale, clinical, sterile experience. That doesn’t sound like a great therapy experience to me! I work with women who are seeking change in their life – related to career, social life, personal development – but don’t know where to start or how to make positive change happen. Within the therapy setting I create a welcoming environment by taking on a solution focused approach, utilizing empathy, challenging you when appropriate, and using humor at times.

I tend to work with those who are objectively quality, imperfect people but feel shame, abnormal guilt or other signals of denigrated self-worth, consciously or unconsciously. In addition to individual therapy and psychoanalysis, I offer therapy groups for anxiety, depression, isolation, and improving authentic, healthy communication.

Richland Oaks Counseling Center (ROCC) is a non-profit clinic with offices in Richardson and McKinney. We offer a full spectrum of services including psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults in individual, couple, family, and group therapy settings. Lori K. Shaw, M.S. LPC earned her undergraduate degree in Education from North Texas State University and her master's degree in Counseling from East Texas State University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Texas certified school counselor and teacher. Lori has spent the majority of her career in the school setting. Having worked with students and families in all school levels, she is at ease and experienced in counseling all age groups. Lori is passionate about helping clients of all ages with behavioral, emotional and social concerns in a collaborative and client centered approach.

I earned my Masters of Science degree at the University of North Texas, and received advanced training in Play Therapy, Expressive Arts and Filial Therapy. I have more than 18 years of experience working with children and families. I specialize in working with Preschool age children and their parents to address concerns regarding emotional and social development and behavioral issues while enhancing the parent-child relationship. I am also passionate about working with pre-adolescents and adolescents. Counseling in adolescence is beneficial to facilitate healthy coping skills and self-expression. I also specialize in addressing the psycho-therapeutic needs of individuals with eating disorders, women with postpartum depression, and families who have experienced the death of a loved one.
