Welcome! I am happy you have taken that first step toward your own personal growth! We live in a complicated world. Are you feeling sad, insecure, or inadequate? Do you worry excessively or compare yourself to others and wish your life were different? The demands of work, home, school, caregiving, loss, transitions, as well as exposure to troubling events can all take their toll. Many of us need a place to breathe, heal, rejuvenate, and discover a better way forward. Together we can create a safe, comfortable, uplifting environment in which to heal, learn and grow.

Sometimes life is hard, or the days simply just suck. Situations feel overwhelming, your relationships are struggling, or maybe you’re just trying to make it through another day. Finding healthy ways to cope with challenges sounds great, but what does that mean and how do you actually do it? It is possible to do more than just survive the days!

As of 8-5-24, I am accepting new clients. My approach shaped by own experiences and recovery, is grounded in harm reduction and mindfulness. Recognizing that traditional abstinence-only methods don't resonate with everyone, I've developed a practice that embraces each individual's unique path to healing. Integrating the practical framework of harm reduction with the transformative power of mindfulness. This allows clients to engage with their challenges in a non-confrontational, present-focused manner, fostering greater self awareness and acceptance.

New Clients Welcome! Sometimes you can be in a room full of people and feel totally alone. You tell yourself that if anyone else knew your struggles they wouldn’t understand, they'd tell you to “get over it” or worse, they would reject you completely. We often strive to prove our value as people through achievement or by doing for others, and we lose sight of who we are and what we want. You deserve a space where you can be truly seen, heard, and accepted as you are where you're at; counseling can be that place.

I take a very down-to-earth approach to counseling. By focusing on what is real and the truth of one's experiences, I encourage my clients to participate in their own recovery processes and to develop new behaviors that produce new results and better solutions. It is my personal belief that as a society we have developed a dysfunctional lifestyle based on fantasy and myth. We act on these false beliefs every day, keeping us stuck in old, immature patterns of reactionary behavior, instead of responding to life's challenges as adults.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
