I am passionate about providing care for adolescents and adults, and have a special interest in LGBTQ+ issues, women's issues, borderline personality disorder, and grief and loss (including the grief surrounding the loss of a pet).
You are the expert on you own life, and no one can give you all of the answers. I strive to empower my clients to take control of their therapeutic process with my guidance and support. I use a person-centered approach and incorporate dialectical behavior therapy and cognitive behavior therapy techniques into my practice. I aim to create a safe and judgement free space for my clients in order to foster self-acceptance and growth and am dedicated to doing my part to end the stigma of mental health through education and compassion.

Sometimes we spend a lifetime searching for answers and trying to unravel the things that have occurred in our lives. Other times, we seek to learn about the future and pathways that we may want to lay out for ourselves. However, at the end of the day, we also need to learn about the present moments and how we transition throughout these various phases of life. Therapy is designed to provide support and a place of safety for the client to explore any and all things that may have already happened in their lives, and the events that may occur as their life continues on.

Pflugerville Counseling Center offers a wide range of counseling services to individuals, families, couples, and children/teens. Though each of us specializes in different areas, we all hold a belief that counseling is most helpful when it is about having a safe relationship to more fully explore, understand, and accept our authentic self. We believe that everyone has a story and the more we can own our stories, the more choice and control we have over writing the next chapters. We all love working with the brain/body/relationship connection we all hold within ourselves and between each other.

Humans are relational. This means we are wired to be loved and accepted by those around us. We live among imperfect people, however, so our experience sometimes becomes hurt from unmet needs. The results then become unproductive patterns in our relationships, negative behaviors, a lack of positivity, and a sense of being stuck. For me, the goal of counseling is to heal past hurts and to process how those hurts affect our current choices and relationships. Once we free ourselves from the hurt, anger, guilt and shame of the past, we are open to feel love and to love others.

Making the decision to go to therapy is hard enough. Finding a therapist that you feel comfortable talking with about all the things in life that brought you to the office shouldn't be so hard. At Ellie Mental Health Pflugerville, we totally get it! Why? Because our therapists are just like everybody else! Being a therapist doesn't give us a "free pass" from all the struggles that can occur in life. That being said, we have the compassion, authenticity, and a sprinkle of humor to sit with you along your journey - no matter how big or small the issues you're dealing with.

Congratulations on taking the first step of change! Life can be full of challenges and setbacks and at times, it can feel very overwhelming, making it hard to cope. However, we do not have to go through them alone. If you find yourself feeling stuck, unmotivated, and discontent with life in general, it may be time to begin therapy. I specialize in Depression, Anxiety and Men’s Issues, but I also have experience working with other mental health issues listed below.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
