ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS!! I have expertise in helping children, adolescents and adults recover from traumatic experiences/events in their lives. In order that we strive and move forward despite whatever obstacles we might face in life, we must instill the concept of RESILIENCY in our children, adolescents and adults. Resiliency teaches us to continue to move forward despite the obstacles we face. In order that we achieve our goal of promoting resiliency and community within the family, we found it most effective to provide a service that would make a difference not only in the homes of those we serve, but also in our communities.

I am a single mother, and God has blessed me with two wonderful (most days) children – one by birth and one through adoption.
I believe it is an honor to be able to work with clients during particularly challenging periods of their lives. I believe God has a purpose and a plan for each of us. Sometimes we need a time of reflection and evaluation of our perspectives to be able to move forward. Seeds of depression and anxiety can be hindering God’s best for our lives. The great news is that these can be overcome.

I am very familiar with foster care and adoption issues.
Hi, I'm Marcie, and I work with children and teens! Do you have a "difficult" child? I will love them. A "perfectionist" child? I will love them. A "wild" child? I will love them! The well-being of each child is my passion, and that fuels my work every day. If you are stuck and don't know what else to do to support your child, you are in the right place. You are doing everything you know to do, but coming up against challenges that you feel ill-equipped to overcome. You can do this, and I can help. Supporting parents and children to thrive is the end goal of my entire practice.

For individual, couples, adults and teens, the pursuit of ones therapeutic goals is a deeply personal endeavor, one that entails time, effort, occasional discomfort and some expense. I am keenly aware of the burden of trust, inherent in my participation in so intimate and earnest an undertaking, and will apply my clinical judgment, professional acumen, interpersonal skills and 35-years of experience, to discern and address those needs. In doing so, respect for your values, reverence for your individuality and deference to your aspirations, will guide our endeavor, enabling you to attain your goals with dignity and true contentment.

Starting therapy can feel intimidating and scary for some clients. My goal is to make my clients feel supported, seen, and valued as soon as they step in the door. Being an animal-assisted therapist, I find highlighting and deepening the bond between humans and animals can have substantial impacts on one's mental health journey. Most clients that I work with vary in age, starting in early childhood and continuing on into parenting and adulthood. My ideal client is one that is engaged, open to learning, and motivated for positive change. Working together, we can take steps to help you live the best version of your life.

That painful event keeps replaying over and over in your head. You can’t stop seeing the images of it. Thoughts of what you could have done differently play on repeat. They force their way into your mind, leaving you overwhelmed, panicked, and burnt out. The triggers are everywhere and anxiety and depression feel like they’re constantly looming over you. If you could just let it go maybe you could move on with your life. You no longer want to carry the weight of what happened but to enjoy the things you once loved.

Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.
When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.
Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.
What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
