At times, we can feel totally overwhelmed...that our life has become out of control. We realize our pain and fears have begun guiding our lives or we may find ourselves in situations/ relationships we never thought we'd be in...perhaps a result of a traumatic event, perhaps a spouse/ parent/ other made hard choices and you are trying to pick up the pieces (i.e., depression, loss of purpose), or you have made the tough decisions and are now dealing with addiction, anxiety, etc. This pain and disruption may seem overwhelming, but from it we have the opportunity to heal, become stronger & learn more about ourselves and about God.

I have years in practice related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD.
Sometimes the overwhelming feeling of life changes can get the best of us. This can include new spouses, childbirth, career change, or even college transitions. I help people manage the symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD. Together we can formulate a plan tailored just for your specific needs. I can teach you strategies to cope with the thoughts that seem to be uncontrollable. Many times, these thoughts can make it difficult to navigate through everyday life. Having a person who is dedicated to your healing process just as much as you can make this journey enlightening.

My goal is to help individuals to get through their emotional problems and traumatic experiences and to heal the pain they feel. I believe in a close connection of body, mind and spirit and think that counseling can very well be approached from this perspective. I have experience with individuals from many different cultures, mentalities, beliefs, religions, and behaviors. I want to help clients heal and become whole again. I want to help them prosper, move forward in life and get what they deserve.

I have experience working with a variety of client needs, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, ADD, eating disorders, self-harm, phobias, relationship challenges, and social struggles.
In my work, I prefer to focus on what is happening right now to help you keep what is working and change what isn't... There are times we must remove some roots to help us move forward and we can do that in a safe environment. Working with a counselor who respects your values and life experience provides the potential for creating an atmosphere for growth further propelling the process of change.

EMDR, although known primarily for trauma processing, allows you to identify and process stuck memories and emotions in a very different way than traditional talk therapy.
Currently accepting LPC-Associates for supervision> Do you feel like you are struggling to "get it together" or feeling like you have to be perfect all the time? Maybe you are about to graduate, are trying to start a new career, or recently became a parent; these changes can bring up insecurities, anxiety and even depression. Sometimes it can feel like you are doing everything right but you still can't seem to reach your goals. Everyone faces challenges, but when you feel like everything has to be perfect, these challenges can feel overwhelming.

From anxiety, depression, and trauma, to just the everyday dysfunctionality in relationships, or needing a safe place to talk things through, I will be a non-judgmental person to process things with and plan out goals to meet in the future.
I fight for my clients and gently challenge them to not give up but instead learn better coping mechanisms so they can get through the difficult times in their lives. This is how I invest in them. I will, however, move at your pace, and if you simply need a space to digest things, we may do so together while you discover more constructive methods to deal with trying circumstances.

I work with clients who are willing to invest in themselves and their personal growth and healing. I believe that all of us have been wounded in various ways and to differing degrees by the vicissitudes of life and events of our past. I do not pathologize our natural responses to such painful events but rather help people to heal from them. This frees people to live fully in the present.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
