Early morning, evening, and Saturday appointments available. Your family and even many therapists don't understand you and are not open. Anxiety, relationship issues, numbness, and negative self-image can be signs of trauma. The life transitions you are going through feel harder than you think they should. You feel like you are carrying a heavy load that no one else can see and are disillusioned. Perhaps you had spiritual experiences or dreams you cannot make sense of. You don't know what to believe anymore. But you've had enough of this. You want hope and meaning in your life. I get you. Let me help you move from pain to purpose!

You’ve been cycling between being anxious and depressed.
manifestwellnesstx.com When people ask you how you’re doing, is the first thing you say, “I’m tired but I’m good” but you know you’re really not. Whether at work or in your home life, when anyone needs help or support of any kind, people rely on you because they know they can count on you. You’ve always prided yourself on being there for the people in your life and putting everyone else first. But lately, you’ve noticed how exhausted you are all the time, how you really need to learn to say no and set some boundaries but you don’t even know where to start. The thought of it makes you feel paralyzed with guilt.

Perhaps you're highly emotional, angry, anxious, depressed, avoiding, having distressing habits, or feeling hopeless like life isn't worth living. These behaviors are common with individuals who have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, or who have had highly stressful or difficulties with family of origin, all of which can compromise your sense of self, safety, and your ability to maintain healthy relationships with those you love the most. Know that you are not alone, and that I can help.

I'm about love, self-compassion, radical acceptance, embracing failure, trusting your innate wisdom and starting over. I fundamentally believe in every person's ability to recover from trauma, addiction and life, in general. Experience has taught me that no one is really avoiding anything. When people accuse you of not dealing with something, what they are really saying is you aren't dealing with it the way they want you to. From my perspective, if you wake up every morning and breathe in and out all day long, you're dealing with your stuff. A tiny bit of intention is all it takes to begin healing.

Life can be messy–and by messy, I mean painful and joyous and everything in between. Counseling can provide a space where you feel seen, supported, and validated through it all. My approach is grounded in relational-cultural theory and trauma-informed counseling. I have worked with survivors of various losses and traumatic events. These experiences can result in feelings of shame and isolation. For this reason, my practice centers on healing through connection. I emphasize your safety and empowerment throughout the counseling process. I meet you where you are with warmth, non-judgment, and even a little bit of humor.

Making the decision to address life issues affecting your mental health can feel overwhelming and difficult. As a LPC, I take great privilege helping adults work through issues or situations that cause mental, emotional, and/or spiritual distress. I have experience working with some of the most acute and chronic mental health issues of varying diagnoses. I am trained to diagnose individuals appropriately per my years of clinical work experience as a crisis counselor, and I utilize that information in therapy to help clients gain knowledge, insight, and develop the necessary tools to help them succeed in daily living.

Through experience within diverse treatment settings, I have worked with a wide range of clinical issues including anxiety and stress management, mood disorders, trauma, relationship concerns, the navigation of life transitions, and grief.
I am drawn to the work of therapy because I believe it is in the context of relationships that we come to know the many facets of ourselves, and can encounter opportunities for profound growth and healing. I see the therapy process as one of joint exploration into the rich worlds both within and around us, and consider it a great privilege to think deeply with others about what matters most in their lives. In this process I draw from evidence-based treatments like psychodynamic, relational, and experiential approaches, while seeking to respond flexibly to the unique needs of my clients.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
