I am a bilingual therapist who works primarily from a Solution Focused Therapy approach or strengths based point of view. I take interest in helping individuals control their anger, impulses, anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive thoughts or behaviors. As for couples, I focus on what they want, know the importance of not taking sides, and make the process fun with activities that foster exploration and growth. I have over 8 years of experience conducting intense family counseling with children and teens who were placed in foster care, treatment centers or correctional facilities because their behavior was out of control.

Hi there! My name is Dr. Ana Alicia Potthast, DSW, LCSW, LCDC. I have a passion for mental health care and substance abuse treatment, and I have extensive experience and training in behavioral health, diagnostics, addiction, co-occurring disorders, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, domestic violence, sexual abuse and assault, maternity and fertility issues, grief and loss, hoarding, family dynamics and conflict, marital issues, sexual orientation and gender identification and expression, adjustment issues, stages in life, and many other situations that bring a client to seek counseling.

I specialize in working with teens who are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, school related issues and substance abuse. I use Play Therapy techniques that I am learning as I pursue my Registered Play Therapy certification.

Therapy should not be complicated - it's really about sitting down and talking with another person without feeling judged, talked down to, or being told what to do. My goal is to provide safe, nurturing, and effective psychotherapy to adults. I use practical and individually tailored approaches. I strive to create an atmosphere of teamwork that allows clients to educate me about their lives and they changes they want. I am not seeing couples at this time.

I work with a wide range of clients and concerns. Anxiety, depression, past trauma, relationship struggles, and behavior difficulties in teens and children are among a few of the common issues I treat. I have several years of experience with play therapy as well as therapy with adults and teens. I see each client and their experiences as unique to them with their own needs and strengths. I am very open minded and non-judgmental and really do care about each one of my clients. I consider the relationship I have with my clients to be central their success.
