The struggle is real. Life is challenging, and at times, overwhelming. Do you deal with symptoms of anxiety, confusion or depression? Are you coping with chronic health issues, life transitions, or relationship difficulties? Do you want to feel better about yourself and your choices?

After twenty years of practice, I continue to find that people are best served by a counselor who is emotionally and psychologically available to them in a time of need. I have enjoyed strong effectiveness working with depression, relationship conflict, grief, and anger management. I work with couples, older adults, teens, and children. These experiences have inspired me to incorporate multiple approaches that fit the personalities, interests and needs that people bring to my practice.

You're finding yourself at a crossroads and you've come to the right place. You envision one day feeling acceptance and liberation from the experiences that currently feel burdensome. You're ready to come home to yourself and but not sure how. What would it be like to no longer navigate these hardships alone, but with someone knowledgeable, affirming, and nurturing? Maybe you are navigating grief or relationship difficulties. You are discovering your identity and exploring sexuality or gender. You're suffering from body image distress wondering if there's a way forward or if you'll always feel discontent with your body.

Whether you are struggling with ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health issues, I am excited to have the opportunity to support you on your therapeutic journey! My ultimate goal in therapy is to empower you to recognize and utilize your inner strengths. I will be happy to listen closely and help you develop effective coping strategies. Though I am still a counseling intern, my years of experience include working with marginalized populations, especially those that have experienced stigma, and I am interested in working with individuals of any and all populations, cultures, identities and backgrounds.

What I have learned about being a human, let alone a therapist, is that everybody has a story. My job is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to tell your story. Life can be very difficult for a multitude of reasons. Sometimes these struggles can feel overwhelming, leaving us confused and hopeless.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
