As I grew, so did my curiosity and through managing my own life traumas, I realized with appropriate training that I could help others piece together skills that decreased suffering and improved overall personal and relational health.
Hi, my name is Lori Bachman, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have over twenty years of experience delivering counseling services to people seeking support and guidance through difficult times in their lives. I utilize a variety of theoretic styles that best suit a person individually. Using a client-centered approach, I combine a soft and direct approach and use models such as trauma informed somatic experience, rational emotive, cognitive and dialectical therapies to explore the past and present to aid in the development of coping skills to improve one's emotional and overall wellbeing.

Calling all resilient GenZ & Millennials who carry the heavy burden of unresolved trauma & are so ready to lighten the load. Does your life look normal on the outside but, on the inside you feel constant anxiety, crushing perfectionism, and you’re always overthinking or going to the worst case scenario? How about that mean loud voice in your head constantly hurling insults & reminding you of all your faults. Here are some other things you hate: being vulnerable, disappointing others, and putting yourself first. Not to mention the self-doubt, always questioning your decisions, and having the hardest time trusting yourself.

Bienvenidos! As a Valley native, I have been in private practice since 1982 in Virginia and Texas. I work with clients above the age of 12 (and younger children in family therapy). I specialize in resolving depression and anxiety, and tackling marital problems relating to infidelity, intimacy, child rearing, midlife crisis, and communicating. When a client is motivated, I find that short-term therapy is often sufficient to effect significant positive changes, but I may see clients for longer periods when the problems are related to childhood wounds. I often use dream analysis to deepen our work, and to help in resolving trauma.

Deciding to seek help is the first step in the counseling process, and most often, the hardest step. Parents want the best for their children, but sometimes it’s hard identifying what exactly is the best way to help them. If your child is experiencing difficulty managing their emotions or behaviors, finds it hard building relationships with you or with peers, or has experienced a major life transition that they are struggling to cope with, I am here to assure you that you are taking an important step to better you and your loved ones life.

I practice counseling from a trauma informed, culturally responsive, and somatically oriented lens. I believe that we experience our stressors and traumas at the intersection of our physical, cultural, and relational realities. I view each individual as the expert of their experience, including children and teens, and collaborate with individuals and families to support meaningful change. I believe that we heal best when we can attune to our emotional and somatic experience of the present moment in the context of safe relationships and work to create a secure space for processing the past and reorienting to the present and future.

You can heal in your goals by developing new skills to become the better person you want to be. By overcoming behavioral issues in whatever lifestyle and situation you find yourself in. In counseling, we can see our vulnerability as human beings where we find ourselves facing irrational ways of thinking that take us to negative feelings and then we act them out. Thus, the process of learning other ventures to life is to face ourselves at times with our own issues and learn to re-think things out. To heal ourselves is to also not only learn to change ourselves but to forgive ourselves along the journey of our lives.

I help women with young children who are filled with self-doubt about their abilities as a mom to achieve knowledge and understanding of emotional development in children so that they can feel confidence in themselves as a mother and absolute trust in their ability to nurture a solid, loving bond with their children. Unlike self-help books and podcasts that provide generalized content for every kind of mama, I focus on helping you, as an individual, to identify your specific desires for your parent-child relationship and cultivate unshakeable trust in yourself as a strong and rooted mama.

You tell yourself, "If I accomplish one more thing, I will be proud of who I am." You wake up, get dressed, and go through the motions of life. You are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and burned out! Lately, you are exhausted from the many conversations going on in your mind. As a result of the hurt, disappointment, and grief, you can’t seem to embrace who you are. This isn’t where you thought you would be at this point in your life. The storm of life has been brewing for way too long. You have been trying to navigate it, but you can’t see a clear path. PAUSE. Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and let's fast forward.

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
