Calling all resilient GenZ & Millennials who carry the heavy burden of unresolved trauma & are so ready to lighten the load. Does your life look normal on the outside but, on the inside you feel constant anxiety, crushing perfectionism, and you’re always overthinking or going to the worst case scenario? How about that mean loud voice in your head constantly hurling insults & reminding you of all your faults. Here are some other things you hate: being vulnerable, disappointing others, and putting yourself first. Not to mention the self-doubt, always questioning your decisions, and having the hardest time trusting yourself.

In addition, I counsel adults 26 and older with a variety of needs, including, grief, anxiety, time management, problem solving, stress, conflict resolution, trauma, and financial management.
My clinical approach is based in cognitive behavior therapy, thus focusing on replacing harmful belief systems with truthful belief systems that will allow you to heal and grow. However, the theories I use are eclectic because each person needs an individualized approach. I have a particular heart to restore and improve marriages, recognizing the value of the family system in our society. This is done by connecting spouses with positive input, rather than focusing on problems, as well as teaching tools and skills to maintain a healthy marriage.

I treat depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and loss, addiction.
Most of my 30-year counseling career has been spent treating active-duty service members for both behavioral health and substance use issues. My theoretical training began with Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I continue to follow the “lead from behind” approach. This basically means my job is to assist the client to define their own goals and the paths to those goals using their belief system and values.

You want to trust others but you worry about getting hurt. You rather leave a relationship before they leave you. You find yourself anxious in relationships and you look for reassurance from your partner. You're worried that good things wont last forever. In therapy, you will learn to understand your body, mind, and emotions. We will process triggers and stop anxious spiraling. We will reprocess past trauma. You will learn tools/exercises that will help you feel connected and in control of your body. Life will feel more authentic and you will find new confidence. Relationships will begin to feel safe and healthy.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
