In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to dismiss the importance of mental health. It’s easy to think of all the reasons not to make yourself a priority. Trying to do all the things without investing in yourself, takes a toll on your body and your mind. If you find yourself tired, numb, irritable, anxious, lacking motivation, or burned out, therapy can be a great place to start. What if you tried investing in yourself for a change?

Do you oftentimes feel like you’re on autopilot? Maybe you wake up and go through the day only to get home but feel like there’s GOT to be something more in life. Have you lost sight of your purpose? You may wonder how you even got to this point. You’ve lost your WHY. You may feel overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle of everyday life and don’t know how to slow down. You feel guilty when you think about doing things for yourself and even if you wanted to, you don’t know where to start. I too know what it’s like to feel like you are playing tug-of-war with yourself; fighting your own battle within and doing what you can to survive.

Everyone enters and exits this precious world in the same way; however, our journeys are very different! Life happens at all the wrong and right times, yes? Relationships, finances, illnesses, parenting, education, careers, aging parents . . . we have so much going on and often what we NEED is a safe space to sort out priorities, find balance, and process our past and present. If your goal is to enhance or restore your functioning, therapy is a great tool!

Since 1999, I've worked with children from ages 4 through 19 and parents. Kids, teens and families are engulfed with various problems and often find themselves struggling to keep "it altogether". These problems affect everyone's emotions and behaviors. Young people often don't understand their feelings, so don't express them appropriately and/or feel as if no one is listening. It's not long before negative behaviors surface, which negatively impacts all involved. Talking with a nonbiased counselor who listens and helps you to communicate effectively leads you to discovering solutions now and throughout life.

Do you want a therapist or supervisor that thinks outside of the box but stays with you each step of the way? Autumn’s childlike heart allows her to see others in a way where they feel deeply understood and leave her presence knowing they too matter. In therapy, we want to feel heard and understood but we need a game plan of how to move forward. She is gifted in the art of helping her clients discover clarity in areas that once seemed obscure. This clarity provides vision that allows them to understand their world in a deeply profound way while giving them the confidence to make changes in their lives. This is empowerment!

Today our complicated and fast-paced lives are full of pressures that challenge us in countless ways. "How can I find happiness in my marriage?", "How do I cope with...?", and "Why do I feel so out of control?" are some of the questions I hear from clients seeking to understand their life journey and questioning what they can do to reach their true potential - individually, as a couple, or as a family. Soul searching is rarely an easy path to take, yet wanting to achieve an emotionally healthy life is usually the motivator which begins the process.

I focus on treating individuals with depression/anxiety, PTSD, aftereffects of childhood molestation, grief/loss, and addiction issues, including food addiction; I work with bariatric patients in making behavioral changes for healthier living.
You don't have to struggle alone. Let's work together to identify and understand what may be blocking you from feeling better. Acquire the tools needed for a fulfilling quality of life and for healthier relationships. Often, past and current issues can get in your way or cause excruciating internal conflict. I listen with empathy, with non-judgement, and help to empower individuals in areas where they feel stuck, exhausted, or defeated. You deserve to enjoy life! Give me a call, and we'll work through the blocks together. (Finding a therapist can seem overwhelming. Let's talk to see if your search ends here!)

My areas of interest include families, depression, anxiety, and trauma-based issues.
"Hardship often prepares an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny" (C.S. Lewis). Often, life stressors can be so overwhelming and we lose sight of ourselves within the stress. As a therapist, my goal is to assist you through such stressors, and eventually overcome them. Whether, this is going through a life-altering event, overcoming trauma, or just finding ways to manage your life, I am committed to helping you find that happiness at the end.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
