Life can be difficult to navigate at times, but I believe we all possess inner strength and resiliency to address and learn coping skills to make life easier to handle. I meet people where they are and assist alongside them to where they want to be. Therapy can be challenging, but I provide a relaxed atmosphere where we work to assist in guiding you to identify your strengths and where you can freely express your emotions. My goal is to provide the best modalities to address areas of concern and be empathetic, understanding, and demonstrate unconditional positive regard where you feel safe, listened, while assuring your self-worth.

Please, allow me to navigate this life-changing journey with you. To be heard without being judged allows us to explore our current state of emotion without the fear of being ridiculed, without the stigma behind mental health, and without the fear of “what will they think of me?”

Despite trying to forget that event or situations that happened, they are still on your mind. I know it probably feels pointless to think about the past right now, but you are ready to heal and want to move on. You want to stop overthinking about your past and instead believe that you ARE good enough, lovable, and deserve good things. At times, certain days don’t seem “that bad” then something triggering happens with your partner, kids, friends, or parents. Suddenly, your mind is flooded with memories of the past which leaves you feeling negative about yourself all over again. Maybe, you wish you could have prevented it.

You are a loving caregiver, dedicated to your child. But lately, you have found yourself amid an emotional tempest, questioning your abilities and feeling like a parenting failure. Your child’s behavior has become increasingly challenging. Tantrums erupt at the most unexpected times, drawing judgmental glances from strangers and leaving you feeling embarrassed and ashamed. You often wonder how such a tiny human could evoke such intense guilt and self-doubt within you.

In life, everyone encounters difficulties and I believe it is an act of courage to recognize when help is needed. My approach to providing psychological services involves a collaborative relationship with my client so that together we can come up with strenghts-based solutions to the difficulties they are experiencing. I rely on evidence-based practices, primarily from a cognitive-behavioral perspective but I am able to incorporate other types of interventions as needed by my client. I believe all clients can benefit from a compassionate listener who can help them process and also reframe difficulties experienced.

You deserve to live a life of happiness that leaves you excited to wake up every morning! Life can be busy, complicated, and messy. Maintaining your work/life balance, being a good parent and/or partner, and managing your physical health can feel like a daily struggle. One change after another leads to you feeling overwhelmed. Do you struggle to find balance in your life and time to take care of yourself? Do you feel overwhelmed by strong emotions, worries, and stress? Do you feel exhausted from creating “what ifs” in your head, feeling dread and uncertainty about the future? Does childhood trauma continue to impact your daily life?

My name is Imane Boulares, and I am a Muslim Arab American. I was raised in California, where I was exposed to various cultures and backgrounds. I am very thankful to that exposure as it taught me how to be accepting and understanding of others from an early age. It has also made me very curious to learn more about other cultures and how it effects day-to-day life and family systems. Furthermore, I received my psychology BA from UT-Austin and my M.Ed. from Lamar University. Working at the different settings has provided me with a diverse experience on different mental health issues with various intensities.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
