Do you ask yourself “I’m smart, why is this so difficult?” Or find yourself repeating patterns where you think, “I should know better?” Maybe you were identified as Gifted as a child (or your teen is gifted) and wonder why they call it "gifted" when things are hard? Do you feel you lost your giftedness when you entered high school and gifted "support" became AP classes? Then maybe you could use a guide to help you uncover and understand those things you feel you “should know” or be able to do but might not have ever been taught. Bringing yourself in line with who you want to be is one of the things therapy can do for you.

People have always been my passion. They fascinate me...what makes them tick, what makes them happy, how they fit together. People are defined by their culture, their beliefs, their relationships, connections, communications, structure, and family. All people are connected. Everyone affects everyone they know. When one person has problems, everyone in the family is affected. Sometimes the relationships themselves need work; but everyone needs to tell their story, to feel heard and validated. Everyone deserves to declare their voice, their identity. And sometimes, we all need a little help with telling others our needs and feelings.

At the heart of the therapeutic relationship is connection! My passion is working with all types of individuals, believing that on the inside we have more likeness than differences. Together we explore individual and family history and establish goals for therapy. I provide them with education and support to take the steps towards desired change. Some know they have a substance use problem, others aren't sure, and still others have been affected by the disease of addiction throughout their childhood and/or adult relationships.

Do you often find yourself minimizing or ignoring feelings like anxiety or sadness because they’re too difficult to deal with? Or telling yourself you shouldn’t complain because you have good things in your life? Do you find yourself checked out? Avoiding people, events, and conversations? Feeling our emotions can be overwhelming and, without help, can lead us to get stuck in fight, flight, or freeze. To better understand your past and what brought you here, we’ll reflect on the role stress has played in your life. You’ll be equipped with the necessary coping skills to be present and enjoy your life. Let’s begin–I’m here with you.

Some of these approaches include; acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, and experiential therapy.
Therapists take on a number of different roles in their work. I predominately view my role as guide. The majority of my sessions are conducted through a virtual platform but I also offer in-person sessions in an outdoor setting. One of the goals of this practice is to help clients discover a deeper sense of self and acceptance. Another intention of this practice practice is to help clients build and maintain the necessary tools they already have existing within themselves, and lead clients to new discoveries of living life in a more balanced and enjoyable way.

My role as a therapist is to facilitate growth and change by assisting my clients in realizing and exploring the primary concerns in their lives. My job is to help them get "unstuck," so that they can choose other ways to live. I offer tools that can help them communicate better, establish necessary and healthy boundaries, manage anger and fear healthily, and eliminate self-destructive and self-harming behavior. Most importantly, I offer assistance in improving the self, which can enrich and increase the joy in my client's lives.

If you have hopes and dreams for yourself but all you know is that whatever you do, it’s never enough; if you avoid facing the mirror because you don’t like who you see; or if you don’t know where to go but all you know is that you don’t want to be where you are: then searching for a therapist is an excellent first step to something new.

I believe that a person is a whole being, with a mind, a body, and a spirit, and that often we are challenged in the balance and wellness of these parts of us. Every one of us encounters challenges and endures hardships throughout our lives that may upend the different parts of us that make us feel well and whole. Although we share this fundamental human experience, no one person’s journey to find this balance again is exactly the same and in therapy we will gently and compassionately work towards you rediscovering your own footing.

My ideal client is one that feels a mind and body disconnect and is motivated to learn and implement a gentle breathwork and grounding practice as part of their therapy. This along with rational emotive therapy and mindfulness are the primary modalities I utilize.

I believe in humanistic philosophy. People have room to grow in order to fulfill their life yearnings. However, many life experiences possibly block that potential and these blocks show as depression, anxiety, and many other symptoms. I want to be with people to assist in the enrichment of their lives. Individuals need to be healthy in various levels to share their lives in a family and a community. We can explore together to find what is interfering in life and enrich them to reach true potentials.

Experiential Therapy

How does experiential therapy work?

Experiential therapy works by allowing an individual to use their creativity to re-imagine themselves and their lives in an effort to process their emotions. Experiential therapy may take many forms, including engaging clients through art, re-enactments, role-playing, music, or forms of physical recreation. By focusing on these activities, experiential therapists help individuals identify the emotions they associate with previous experiences and work together to cope with negative reactions, like fear, anger, or shame.

Is experiential therapy evidence-based?

Experiential therapy incorporates many therapy modalities, some of which have been more closely researched than others. Music therapy, for example, has been shown to help with sleep problems. Some studies find that art therapy can be beneficial for those with eating disorders or personality disorders, while other research suggests that such approaches have little impact.

How long does experiential therapy last?

The duration of experiential therapy will depend on the type of therapy used as well as the severity of the challenges an individual faces. Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Art therapy may comprise 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or on an as-needed basis. For each therapy type, clients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

Does experiential therapy help with trauma?

Trauma is one area where experiential therapy may be useful. Traumatic experiences such as combat or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating visual art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. Listening to music can be relaxing, while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, or who have been physically or emotionally abused.
