My approach to therapy is interpersonal and collaborative. I strive to develop a strong therapeutic alliance that will allow us to achieve your treatment goals. I have a strong interest in multicultural issues and working with diverse populations. For me, diversity not only consists of race or ethnicity but also consists of sexual orientation, gender, socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, age, and a myriad of other characteristics that make an individual unique. I integrate your personal history (narrative) and solution-focused goals to develop a treatment plan in order to facilitate growth and change you wish to see in your life.

I work with individuals to help them find balance in life, identify the barriers that are holding them back, and offer tools to help you live life fully.
Let's face it, life gets messy. At one point or another, we've all asked ourselves the questions; how did I get here or how will I get through this? Whether it's a shaky relationship, a difficult life transition or just a need to have someone to confide in, I believe that the broken places in our hearts can be healed and you can write a life story that you are proud to live.

That room, unlike other rooms, is completely free from judgment, and with the forever knowledge that you are the expert in your own life.
Welcome! And congratulations on taking your first step toward healing. Counseling can be an intimidating process, but I am here to help you strive to be your most authentic self, even if you’re struggling to know or remember who that “self” is for a time. Whether that’s because you’re a couple struggling to communicate, an individual who’s ready to unpack trauma, anxiety, or depression, a teen on a journey through a newly realized identity, a queer person ready to come out, a queer person who’s tired of coming out, someone ready for personal growth, or some unknowable "other," let's get you (re)acquainted with you.

Individual therapy: Depression, Anxiety, Communication, Conflict Resolution, Attachment, and Life transitions.
Individual therapy: I am a licensed counselor and have been in the mental health field since 2002 & started my practice in 2007. My approach stems from a cognitive-behavioral model which dictates that a client is able to re-learn automatic belief systems as well as behavior patterns. I facilitate each counseling session from a person-centered approach, which considers the client to be the most important aspect of the counseling process. The choice to make changes is yours, however, it takes work!

You are the expert of your own life, and as your therapist, I will meet you where you are.
When old ways no longer serve you and "that feeling" just lingers, it's time for a change. With a small ounce of courage and a burning desire, you can overcome challenges and take back control of your life. I believe you harness the power to heal from old wounds, develop healthy relationships, and grow into the person you aspire to be. My goal is to help you unlock your inner strengths, visions, and interests by helping you explore ways to transform your thought patterns into healthier, more functional patterns.

I work primarily from an blend of psychodynamic and experiential viewpoints. In this structure, therapy is primarily aimed at helping clients become aware of and make productive use of deeper thoughts and feelings under the surface. As humans, over the years we suppress and manage our emotions in order to cope with everyday life, however, it is only when we acknowledge and express these emotions, that we can rediscover a passion for life.

I have the therapeutic tools and will work with you to teach you how to use them to your advantage to make life a little easier.
It is so unbelievably easy to feel overwhelmed and disconnected with life, especially these days. Without the proper mental health tools to tackle your issues, you may find yourself in a repetitive loop of the same old behavioral patterns. It can be scary and frustrating to feel stuck in life and you may wonder where you went "wrong." It may feel daunting to reach out to a therapist (I get it!) but know that my sessions are free of judgment and are a safe place to talk and problem solve. I believe you have most of the answers you need: I'm merely the facilitator to help you in your crisis.

My name is Chelsea DeKruyff, MA, LPC. I am a compassion-centered, neuroscience-informed psychotherapist in Austin, Texas. I specialize in working with PTSD and trauma-related disorders, ADHD, relationships and codependency, and identity issues. You may feel like your experience is too big, that it would overwhelm a listener. You may also think that your experiences are inconsequential and don't warrant the attention of a therapist. If you hold either view, I encourage you to open yourself to new possibilities.

Life Coaching Therapists

What can I expect from life coaching?

Clients and coaches will typically start by identifying the problem area(s) that the client hopes to address—then, the coach will help the client brainstorm potential solutions and explore concrete techniques to help the client attain their goals. Coaching is typically short-term and focused on finding solutions in the here and now, rather than exploring a client’s past. In addition to strategies aimed at the client’s specific concerns, coaches may encourage general stress management techniques such as meditation.

Can a life coach help treat anxiety?

Because the majority of life coaches are not licensed clinicians, they are not qualified to diagnose or treat anxiety. Anyone struggling with anxiety or another mental health condition should seek help from a licensed mental health practitioner. However, some coaching clients who struggle with subclinical anxiety report that working with their coach on other problems—such as career dissatisfaction or unhealthy habits—has a positive effect on their anxiety.

Can life coaching be done online?

Yes. While life coaching often happens in person, many coaches conduct sessions over the phone or via online platforms such as Zoom or Skype. Because life coaches are not subject to local licensing regulations in the same way that therapists are, they are able to see clients who live in other locations.

How long does life coaching last?

Life coaching tends to be a shorter-term process than therapy, though it does not always unfold over a specific period of time and is instead based on the coach’s or the client’s preferences. Coaching often takes place over three to 12 months but may be shorter or longer if necessary.
