Through EFT and PCT, I'll create an environment that feels simply feels like two people in a room piecing together the puzzle that is you.
Welcome! And congratulations on taking your first step toward healing. Counseling can be an intimidating process, but I am here to help you strive to be your most authentic self, even if you’re struggling to know or remember who that “self” is for a time. Whether that’s because you’re a couple struggling to communicate, an individual who’s ready to unpack trauma, anxiety, or depression, a teen on a journey through a newly realized identity, a queer person ready to come out, a queer person who’s tired of coming out, someone ready for personal growth, or some unknowable "other," let's get you (re)acquainted with you.

Have you been feeling trapped by societal expectations, questioning your personal identity, facing relationship conflicts or stifling family dynamics and experiencing work or academic stress? Do you retreat from those closest to you, get locked into a negative mental feedback loop, or look to others for approval or seek out pleasure to avoid or distract from what you're feeling inside? Whichever path you choose for comfort, it's no longer effective. Recognizing this, you seek change in your approach, acknowledging the need for a new path towards comfort and security.

It takes a village to create the life that you want for your child. You want the best for them and only look to trusted professionals for guidance on their needs. As someone who comes from a Hispanic family (with LOTS of nieces and nephews), I know firsthand the importance of open communication and trust building as you seek assistance for them. No matter what the concern is, my primary (and ongoing) goal is to gain your family's trust. I value creating a comfortable environment for families to express their needs through any stage of the counseling process. My specialties include working with children and teens diagnosed

Not accepting new clients
Welcome! If you are sitting at your computer perusing therapy websites, I applaud you for taking the first step and having the courage to consider whether taking a therapeutic journey is the right decision for your life. While taking this journey is not easy, I fully believe that delegating time to work on ourselves allows us to grow in a mindful and self-accepting way. Psychotherapy is not a "one size fits all process." Instead, psychotherapy should be tailored to the client. Psychotherapy is about meeting you where you are at and working towards your goals in order for you to obtain the life you desire.

My specialized training and experience in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) provides an experiential approach in working with couples-- one that builds strong and enduring emotional connection.
Do you feel disconnected from your spouse-- perpetually trying "reach" him or her, but angry, sad or frustrated at your inability to connect? Or perhaps you find yourself distancing from your marriage partner, avoiding conflict in order to feel safe, only to find yourself "walking on eggshells." You feel the pain of disconnection with the person you love, and you feel stuck; maybe it even feels hopeless at times. If only you could re-discover the bond that somehow still exists beneath the rubble of fighting, avoiding and blaming. Or, possibly your struggles are more individual than relational?

Accepting new clients (August, 2024). Feeling stressed, anxious, on edge, not allowing yourself to feel happy for fear of the next bad thing that might happen. Highly sensitive, you get hurt easily and the emotions take over leaving you doubting yourself and not able to trust others. It’s getting in the way of your life and your relationships. Trying to avoid it, keep yourself busy, or think your way out of it isn’t working. Your insecurity tells you to put others first, but then you feel used or taken for granted. You so want to be seen, heard, and acknowledged.

Are you grappling with the aftermath of betrayal or broken trust in your relationship? Do you feel lost, confused, and hurt? You are not broken for not being able to move forward past this experience. Time and a safe space is often needed to make sense of the pain and trauma caused by broken trust. You do not have to move through this time alone. My aim is to provide insights regarding the effects of betrayal while empowering you and your personal strengths as you navigate relationship repair and/or as you focus on individual growth.

While relationships are my passion, I also strive to recognize each human within the relationship; as such, many areas I work in apply to both couples and individuals. My specialties are emotional & sexual intimacy, rebuilding trust, cultural blending, self-esteem, and communication. Growth occurs most successfully when there is a willingness to self-reflect, be curious, be open to challenge & change, and consistently work between sessions. My goal is for my clients to build the necessary skills to approach difficulties on their own - rather than rely on therapy indefinitely.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
