I am a couples therapy specialist with extensive training in emotionally focused couples therapy.
I'm ready to offer a warm and accepting environment where you feel comfortable. My passion is to connect with others and genuinely "see" them for who they are and meet them where they are in life. If you are struggling with the relationships in your life, such as your spouse, parents, children, in-laws, siblings, or friendships, we can work together toward more safety, boundaries, reconnection or better communication in these relationships.

The journey of life can be stressful, often leading people to feel stuck and confused on which way to turn. Feelings of anxiety, depression, fear, isolation and inadequacy can develop and relationships with family members or other significant others can become strained during these times. Finding solutions can be difficult in the midst of confusion and pain.

I am a Christian based psychotherapist who believes that Christ is the only one who can bring true and complete healing. I also believe that people can change how they feel by changing how they think, which causes them to change their responses in different situations. When people are willing to couple these two things, transformation happens in their life. For over 20 years I have had the privilege of partnering with people to bring about hope and healing in their lives. I would love the privilege to partner with you as well!

It seems like everyone around you is smiling and enjoying life. How do they do it? They look so confident and carefree, while even the smallest task feels insurmountable to you. Just going about daily life is like climbing a mountain, yet never reaching the top. The moment your eyes open, anxiety and depression greet you, stalking you throughout the day. Your mind is full of criticism and self-doubt. Yet you keep your pain a secret, because you're mortified and ashamed. Besides, your life is no worse than anyone else’s, right? Would they believe you’re suffering -- or blame you for feeling so bad? Maybe you even blame yourself...

Therapy is often sought when there is a discrepancy between where you see yourself currently in life and where you would like to be. I will work collaboratively with you to develop a unique treatment plan that will help close this gap and create balance and wellness in your life. I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment in which clients can explore challenges and struggles and begin to make positive changes. A strong therapeutic relationship, I believe, helps individuals recognize the unique strengths they possess and take an active role in the transformation process.

When I work with you, I want to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you. Harsh criticism or judgment is rarely beneficial, especially in our world where there is no shortage of people telling you what you are doing wrong. I also want to make sure the space is safe and understanding, I want to get to know you as well as possible. This means understanding what brings you into therapy now, and getting to know how relationships, traumas, or experiences within society might influence their mental health.

As a client-centered counselor specializing in Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT) my priority is to help you connect the dots between life, relationships and emotions.
Does your life sometimes feel like a docudrama? You know the kind where you're watching in disbelief, shaking your head wondering what crazy thing will happen next? Or maybe you feel like you're doing your best to "just keep swimming", but life seems to be coming at you in tidal waves; dragging you under faster than you can doggy paddle back to the surface. Relationships, work, finances, parenting, family, friends, health can feel exhausting and overwhelming. Even on the good days it's a lot to manage and bad days can leave you feeling like it's just too much. I get it and I'm here to help.

I utilize a number of approaches to therapy, including mindfulness based work, the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy.
While my therapeutic style calls upon several well established and effective counseling approaches, my main focus is on interpersonal relationships. My passion is to guide clients on a journey to discover inner strengths and to develop positive patterns of interaction. I am a professional counselor and a marriage and family therapist that loves working with families. All aspects of family life and members of the family (individuals, couples, single parents, entire families, and blended families) are of interest to me. I know that what affects one person in the family affects all members of the family.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
