I will also teach you simple ways to lessen stress and anxiety using breathing exercises and meditation.
All of us struggle sometimes- this is just part of being human! It is easy to feel overwhelmed when life isn’t going as planned. If you sometimes feel like your own worst critic, are feeling lost, or want to improve your self-confidence, you’ve already taken a step in a positive direction by seeking help. Learning to be more aware of your thoughts and feelings and being kinder to yourself will help you feel better, improve relationships, overcome past trauma, and empower you to make your life what you want it to be. Sometimes we need help to navigate our struggles, you don’t have to do it all alone.

You are feeling depressed or anxious, maybe overwhelmed and at a loss for finding direction and purpose. You are struggling to feel empowered and are often making unhealthy decisions. Your life feels out of control and your relationships are not satisfying. You may be struggling to manage school or work responsibilities due to stress or anxiety. It feels like life is so very hard and it feels impossible to have compassion for yourself or to feel connected to others in a healthy way.

Any “symptom" (depression, anxiety, compulsions, etc.
My strengths work well with clients who were the truth-tellers in their families. Like the boy in “The Emperor Has No Clothes,” you probably experienced a lot of blowback for pointing out the obvious and uncomfortable. Maybe you came to doubt your own experience and wisdom. Over time you may have lost touch with those gifts, resulting in understandable confusion and coping skills that just aren't working anymore (symptoms). You came in this world authentically yourself, let's go find them! I offer a free 15 minute consultation so you can feel comfortable before making your first appointment.

I enjoy using person centered techniques to work with people in life transitions like people with relationship issues, anxiety, and depression.
Do you feel stuck out on your own private island? Everyone feels lonely occasionally and some people enjoy solitude, but loneliness is the feeling of one’s social needs not being met. To understand what those social needs are we can dive into your personal needs. Are your emotional struggles limiting your life choices or stopping you from expressing yourself authentically? It is different for everyone, but noticing personal challenges and how you deal with them is part of therapy. We can work together to identify your core challenges and and untangle your emotional struggles that keep you from living the life you want.

Maybe you are watching your student struggle with depression or anxiety and are seeking help for them or maybe you need support for yourself.
“When we were children, we used to think that when we were grown-up we would no longer be vulnerable. But to grow up is to accept vulnerability... To be alive is to be vulnerable.” Madeleine L'Engle Seeking therapy is to open yourself up…to become vulnerable to be able to talk about struggles with your partner, your kids, your life. Vulnerability is the beginning of change. We are ready for change when the pain of staying the same is more costly than the status quo. If you are tired of holding on to ways of doing things that don't work for you anymore, I want to help.

A sense of belonging. Feeling seen and understood. Feeling comfortable with your actions and responses to loved ones, co-workers, and acquaintances. To make meaning of how your life has gone so far and, perhaps, find some peace within your story. Sometimes these real, human desires can feel daunting without some support... My approach is extremely genuine, compassionate, and ... real. I have many years of experience working with clients who have encountered challenges in life transitions, identity/sexuality, relationships, historical family trauma, depression/ anxiety, and questioning what it means to live their truth in life.

I believe that all individuals, couples and families are capable of working towards positive change. I respect and appreciate the unique nature of my clients' circumstances in life. As a therapist, I bring a very creative approach into the sessions. In the first session with clients, a unique plan of development begins to emerge.

Relationships can be some of the most difficult things we face. When we don't have understanding of our own hearts it makes it difficult to communicate what we need, and when we don't understand, we can sometimes demand of others to read our minds and understand us. When this inevitably fails, we then blame the other for not meeting our needs. If you find yourself hurting over failed relationships, or are currently trying to make a painful relationship work, perhaps I can help you. Please visit my website for more information.

Each day you find yourself struggling to connect with others or tolerate your own intense emotions leading to acting out the same unhealthy or unfulfilling behaviors that ultimately add to a cycle of sadness or anger. You struggle to feel like you can be truly honest in your relationships with others and find yourself continuing to push others away. It feels as though you spend all of your energy on surviving with no time left to truly take care of yourself. You may watch yourself make decisions you know are damaging, react to others in ways that make you feel worse about yourself leading to unsatisfying relationships.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
