I don't believe one modality of therapy "fits all" but instead I work to provide trauma-informed care, I use a variety of therapy techniques to achieve this goal including dialectical behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
I enjoy partnering with individuals to improve their overall quality of life and I truly believe each of us holds the power to improve ourselves.

Whether you are working through past trauma, recent trauma, getting through rough patches, seeking greater self-satisfaction, or looking for encouragement on a spiritual awakening, I can provide support. Exploring these life issues begins with a relationship built on trust, respect, warmth, and humor. Therapy, at its core, is an exchange of energy between therapist and client, an energetic reciprocation to begin the healing process, which is paramount to guiding a client to embrace their authentic self. This is my approach to assisting others to move through and into a better version of themselves.

So 2024 is here.... But something still feels off. You're not nuts (yet) but you're stuck somewhere between stressed and emotional wreck. But we've got this. Happiness, success, fun & play are within reach. You just need to re-find your momentum in life, work, career & relationships. Are zero energy & zero motivation holding you back? Maybe some brain fog? Your struggle is admirable and it sucks. But misery IS optional. Let's start kicking back at life. End the negative thinking, let's learn different/better ways of thinking/behaving to get what you want in life. Surviving is just okay-but thriving is SO much better!

My primary role as your therapist is to help you determine what sort of life you want to live and help you to create it. I don't use a 'one size fits all' approach but a mixed Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral approach rooted in Family Systems Theory. I also work with the family courts as a treating expert, a very different role than that of a traditional psychotherapist. As a forensically-informed Collaborative Divorce Mental Health Professional, Parenting Facilitator/Coordinator, Reunification Therapist, and New Ways for Families Parent Educator, I will use my knowledge to help you satisfy requirements in a legal setting.

The great news is that anxiety, depression, ADHD, and the impact of most disorders can be changed with correct diagnosis and intervention! It is possible to learn behavioral and cognitive strategies to increase productivity, mood and overall achievement.
My passion is helping people to understand a diagnosis, and how to parent in light of a child’s diagnosis, as well as being an advocate for the client. Our world is a difficult and challenging place to navigate, but there can always be new thoughts, behaviors, feelings and action that can make life easier. I have over thirty years experience with psychological assessment and psychotherapy with expertise in ADHD, both children and adults, Autism, learning disabilities, anxiety and depression. I love helping people accomplish the changes they want to make to be happy and fulfilled.

You keep thinking that this is just a stage or a passing behavior your child is going through. You stay up late searching online for books, articles, and social media posts looking for something new to try because nothing you do is working to help your child. The meltdowns, temper tantrums, yelling and the power struggles in your home are not how you pictured family life. It's too much noise, too much stress and the chaos is draining your energy. This is not the adventure you signed up for or learned about in Parenting 101. It's time for change.

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
