Has caregiving become your prominent role? Are you part of the sandwich generation? Are you squeezed between caring for a child/grandchild and aging parents, relatives, siblings, or friends? Middle-aged women are increasingly faced with caring for multiple generations within a family system. Nearly half of middle-aged Americans are currently experiencing this “sandwiched” effect, including the anxiety and grief that goes along with it.

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results." ADDICTION & DEPENDENCY result from an unconscious refusal to move through the pain of withdrawal (from a chemical, thought-process, behavior, other person, etc.). The behavior gets repeated, accompanied by cycles of disappointment, shame, GRIEF, frustration and isolation. Having experienced this same cycle (more than once) I bring years of education, training, personal recovery experiences and compassion to our therapeutic relationship. My PERSONAL therapeutic process is on-going. I would be honored to help you in yours. EASY? Nope. WORTH IT? Yes!

I am a postpartum support professional with a passion for working with women and their families as they navigate infertility, difficult pregnancies, pregnancy loss, child loss, birth trauma and perinatal mood disorders.
Therapy is one of the most valuable measures of self-care one can take to live a well-balanced life. I am honored to support my clients as they navigate rocky or unfamiliar waters during periods of adjustment, anxiety and depression. These seasons of our lives can feel unsettling and cause us to feel “stuck” in an unpleasant place. Fortunately, they also present us with the opportunity for growth toward a more rewarding life. Unveiling anxiety, depression, unsettling thoughts, insecurities, trauma and disappointment requires courage- I commend you for taking this first step!

I work with adults, children and adolescent who struggle with stress, self-esteem, difficult behaviors, screen time/technology addiction, history of trauma or abuse, relationships, school or big life transition such as divorce, death, or illness - or those with anxiety or depression with no known trigger. I provide a safe therapeutic space to work through emotions and build on coping strategies. While much of my practice is dedicated to child/adolescent clients, I see adults and couples, especially those impacted by cancer, bereavement, neurodiversity (ADHD/Gifted/2e/Autistic) burnout, addictions, trauma or parenting concerns.

As a trauma-informed therapist with a unique understanding of anxiety, I am familiar with how grief and loss cloud our lives and impact us.
Life's a journey, with many unexpected twists and turns. Sometimes we need someone to talk to, someone to share our thoughts and feelings, dreams and fears, and help guide us toward resolution. I want to help my clients navigate this path, and to also experience the possibilities of living their best life possible. I work with older teens and adults, and also specialize in women's issues across the lifespan, as well as those with health concerns. College students are a special interest, as are educators, as I’ve worked as a teacher and school counselor and understand the stress and dynamics associated with the profession.

She works with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, illness, grief, relationship issues, and many other challenges, to help them find better ways to cope and discover solutions to their difficulties.
Do you sometimes feel sad and you don’t know why? Do you worry about the future and can’t seem to stop thinking about the “what ifs”? Have you experienced a traumatic event and are unable to shake the effects? Are you dealing with a serious illness or loss of a loved one? Are you shackled by the memory or consequences of past mistakes, or involved in negative habits you can’t seem to stop? Is your relationship with your spouse distant? You are not alone...

Is your child struggling? Children, teens and their parents face unprecedented challenges in today's rapidly changing world. Anxiety, depression, learning disabilities, attention problems, school stress, difficult relationships, life transitions, chronic illness, grief, mental illness and other experiences compound the inherent challenges of growing up. You and your child may feel discouraged and alone braving these challenges yet experiencing challenges is universal and affirms our connection to each other. How different would life be if we instinctively embraced this truth and reached out for connection to grow through challenges together?

I have found that core beliefs can contribute to ineffectual coping skills, as well as difficulties in life transitions and with grief and loss.
I am a State of Texas Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I obtained both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from the University of Texas at Austin. I accomplished this after a previous career that included being a union representative. My own life experiences drew me to social work and I have worked for many years in various forms of addiction treatment. I work with clients with the understanding that “It’s not what’s wrong with you but it’s what happened to you.”

Sports challenges are unique. Understanding the connection between mind and body, and the role played by attitude, emotions, and perspective in achieving excellence is just as important as physical training. Our therapists are specifically trained on the nuances of working with athletes and their issues, which may include: sports performance & anxiety, injury & recovery, body image & eating disorders, post-sports transition, trauma, competition. We know disappointment is not failure. It is the opportunity to move forward into success, much like the mythical Phoenix rising above 'what is' to achieve 'what can be.'

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
