My EMDR training started in 2018 and I still work on advancing my skills.
Feeling overwhelmed by trauma, addiction, or relationship issues? I'm Dennis, a Certified Trauma Professional (PESI) and Licensed Professional Counselor serving clients in Texas. I work with individuals to address unresolved trauma and better understand addictions. My approach is a partnership; I encourage honesty about thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. We strive for real, lasting change, not just temporary relief. My EMDR training is continuous, having started in 2018 under Dr. Robbie Adler-Tapia and briefly with the late Dr Francine Shapiro.

As a therapist, I believe my primary responsibility is to provide a safe and supportive atmosphere within which clients can freely explore areas of their lives and selves which have not been working well. I believe in identifying client strengths and in supporting and building on those strengths. At at the same time, I work to help clients develop realistic and healthy alternatives to old habits which are interfering with their abilities to become the individuals they are meant to be and to achieve the goals they have set for their lives.

I am EMDR trained, offer research based grief and experiential methods.
Losing someone you love is one of the most life-altering experiences a person can go through. Everyone grieves differently, on their own time and in their own way. Sharing your story and having someone to be in that space with you, listening without judgment, and giving coping tools is necessary in learning to live with loss and finding hope for your future. I provide a safe place for you on this painful journey, to remind you that you are not alone, and help you find your purpose after loss.

I use EMDR, Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping), mindfulness and other somatic modalities that address both the cognitive and limbic parts of the brain.
I never thought I would be a therapist. I found this profession by going through my own personal pain and struggles. These included depression, debilitating social anxiety, general anxiety and a life changing existential crisis. Through the help of some amazing people, I found my way out and I now have a passion to help others. I believe that the most powerful therapeutic relationship is human to human. Yes, I am licensed professional, but more importantly I am another human being that has been in the shit. I will always wear this on my sleeve, as it is the sole reason that I became a counselor.

In addition to a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Levels 1 & 2 of the Gottman Method of couples therapy; Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR); and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
There was something that led you to search, maybe depression or anxiety, unresolved trauma, marriage concerns, family of origin issues, attachment worries, or something nagging at you that you can’t quite explain. If you’re dealing with any of these issues, I’m your go-to for support. It’s no accident you stumbled upon my page. Personally, I’ve dealt with all of those concerns and then some; it’s why I am doing what I do. A therapist changed my life; and I want you to be able to say the same.

For that reason, I sought training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) therapy, an evidenced based treatment for PTSD, and I work with both children and adults to resolve symptoms of trauma.
Children and adolescents often struggle with the same difficult feelings and emotions that adults do, but they have limited ways of expressing themselves. Similarly, parents can find themselves at a loss to reach their child, often leading to stress, anxiety, and disconnection. I have spent years working with children, teens, and their families in order to create healthy coping skills and foster healing, growth, and connection. I am passionate about helping children reach their full potential in a safe environment to explore their thoughts and feelings and develop necessary skills to thrive.

I specialize in trauma recovery, and I am EMDR Certified through EMDRIA.
Indeed, in this world there is trouble, darkness, violence, and loss. Looking for light and meaning can seem hopeless. When you feel that you have lost your way; when you feel that you have lost your true self altogether, trying to fight for your peace alone, I am here to help you. I am here to help you seek the truth and be transformed by the renewal of your mind. It is my desire to help clients identify the messages they believe, often subconsciously, beneath the rhythms of daily life. These messages are often memory-informed and can interrupt our relationships, thought process, health, functioning, and self-perception.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
