You keep thinking that this is just a stage or a passing behavior your child is going through. You stay up late searching online for books, articles, and social media posts looking for something new to try because nothing you do is working to help your child. The meltdowns, temper tantrums, yelling and the power struggles in your home are not how you pictured family life. It's too much noise, too much stress and the chaos is draining your energy. This is not the adventure you signed up for or learned about in Parenting 101. It's time for change.

My approach to counseling stems from eclecticism, where I pull from multiple therapeutic methods such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy, to name a few.
Life can bring unique challenges that trigger depression, anxiety, self-esteem concerns, addiction, grief, relational setbacks, and suicidal thoughts. My goal as your counselor is to meet you where you are by providing a listening ear and cultivating an environment of warmth and care, empowerment, and hope. My commitment is to walk alongside you throughout your journey of self-discovery while introducing you to healthy strategies that will help you cope with the disappointments you encounter. Additionally, if you desire Christian counseling, please let me know, and I’ll be happy to accommodate.

I don't believe one modality of therapy "fits all" but instead I work to provide trauma-informed care, I use a variety of therapy techniques to achieve this goal including dialectical behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
I enjoy partnering with individuals to improve their overall quality of life and I truly believe each of us holds the power to improve ourselves.

I have training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
I enjoy working with clients who may feel alienated in some way. You may be a person suffering from grief from pet loss, miscarriage, or any other unacknowledged loss. You may be the parent of a child receiving special education services feeling judged. You may be having difficulty in your marriage. You may be part of the LGBTQ+ community. You may have suffered from a mood disorder or substance use disorder. You may carry shame from trauma you experienced. My ideal client wants to learn skills to alleviate their suffering, and that may start with trusting someone enough to confide in them.

Parents, what is you relationship with your children/teen like? Is it stressful? Parenting stress is something we don't often talk about. We might feel guilty for not always enjoying every aspect of parenting. I work with families who might be struggling with family stressors. Parents seek me out to help their child or teens who struggle with anxiety, depression, behavioral changes. My approach is different than other child therapist because I involve the parents in every step of the process and encourage them to be the parents that they want to be. It is hard to see your child suffer. I'm here to help.

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
