Learn how to develop more happiness; reduce life's suffering; overcome unhelpful thinking patterns, beliefs, and behaviors; and create more vitality and meaning for your life. I find that the clients that work well with me want more than a sterile, clinical experience. They want professionalism with warmth and humor as part of their therapy. They are also those willing to work and do what's necessary to experience the changes they desire. Of course, they expect that of me as well, and are willing and ready to set goals to improve their experiences in life.

I imagine that the path that brought you here has not been an easy one. I am here to walk along side you on this journey, aiming to create a place for curiosity and empathy, that is free from judgement. My hope is that in our work together, you are able to grow in ways that you may not have previously expected. Sometimes therapy is direct, as with DBT, other times therapy takes a more indirect approach as I create space for us to sit with and explore the unknown. Together we can create a plan to help you live life more fully, presently, and mindfully.

In addition, I am trained in individual and group-based Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT).
Welcome! If you are sitting at your computer perusing therapy websites, I applaud you for taking the first step and having the courage to consider whether taking a therapeutic journey is the right decision for your life. While taking this journey is not easy, I fully believe that delegating time to work on ourselves allows us to grow in a mindful and self-accepting way. Psychotherapy is not a "one size fits all process." Instead, psychotherapy should be tailored to the client. Psychotherapy is about meeting you where you are at and working towards your goals in order for you to obtain the life you desire.

My approach to therapy is solution-focused, with primary strategies grounded in CBT and DBT.
After 25 years, I still absolutely love what I do and look forward with excitement to learning what makes each individual who enters my office unique. I picture myself in the person's shoes and try to see the world from their perspective to learn their strengths, struggles, goals and needs. I see therapy as a collaborative process in which the therapist assists the client in identifying and achieving specific goals. We clarify, refine, and adjust these goals throughout the therapeutic process.

I am experienced in several evidence-based treatment approaches including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Brief Solution Focused, Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness and Client Centered Therapy.
Throughout our lives, we may face many challenges. Some of those challenges may allow us the opportunity to resolve the situation unassisted. However, there are instances when additional support may be needed to help one navigate a successful resolution. As a Licensed Clinician credentialed through the State of New Mexico with over 14 years of experience, I continue to provide essential services and support to a diverse population of individuals across all ages. I utilize a variety of therapuetic techniques individualized for each client as I understand one intervention should not apply across the board.

Welcome! I feel honored to work with children, teens, and young adults who are going through some of the most challenging times of their lives. I specialize in therapy for suicidality and nonsuicidal self-injury. People engage in self-injury and experience suicidality for a variety of reasons, but some of the commonalities tend to be dislike of yourself, feeling isolated, and feeling that your psychological pain is unbearable and unsolvable. I work with clients to find ways to feel hope again, start to like themselves, and find alternative ways to cope.

I provide therapy using empirically supported treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I believe emotional pain must be allowed and accepted in order to be fully felt and heard. I believe that often times, people seek therapy when their pattern of responding to pain has become overwhelming and they are unable to consistently find meaning in their lives. I work to help others accept their current experiences and emotions in order to choose to respond in a way that is no longer dictated by past narratives and/or automatic reactions.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
