Sometimes it can be easy to doubt ourselves, our worth, and our abilities. The experiences we have in life can lead us to having these painful beliefs and emotions, which can bring about feelings of shame, misunderstanding or despair. When we are able to overcome the shame and self-doubt, our true selves are able to be discovered. No matter what you’ve been through, you deserve to be appreciated and respected. My hope is to guide you in self-discovery and finding compassion for yourself that allows you to become the person that you desire to be. Allow me to guide you on your journey of healing and growth.

Areas of focus: trauma, depression, neurodivergence, chronic illness, and relational stress.
Things kind of suck right now, don't they? At the time of writing this, the word feels like it's a dumpster fire. If you're like me though, things have always felt rough internally and connection has never been easy. I hope to offer connection and unconditional positive regard for anyone whose ever felt like they're on the outside looking in. The vision I hold for all clients is to know they are worthy and valid exactly as they are in this moment, and my role is to hold that belief for you until you can hold it yourself. I practice from an anti-racist, relational cultural, fat-positive, and generally affirming lens.

I work with PTSD for Veterans, chronic illness, and grief and loss.
I know finding a good fit for a therapist is hard. And finding a good fit is critical to finding relief and healing. Feeling alone in the trauma, the grief and loss, the overwhelm, and just feeling stuck. It's exhausting, lonely, and I know you're sick of it by now. You get to have some guidance, laughs, and expertise as you go to your sessions, work on YOU outside of sessions, and start feeling more whole again. As for working with me and what it's like? I've been told I'm warm and humorous (usually at my own expense). I see you as the expert and me as the guide, and I will put you at ease right off the bat.

I have worked with various populations and have a diverse background including end-of-life planning, chronic illness management, depression, anxiety, adjusting to life transitions, and caregiver support.
Are you losing sleep at night and your thoughts are running faster than you can process them? Are you spending more time alone and do not understand why? Does life suddenly feel unmanageable and your goals seem unattainable? Life can challenge us to feel vulnerable, lost, and unstable. If you desire to have balance and learn new ways to navigate life and its issues in a more positive and goal-oriented way I can provide the right tools for you.

My background includes working with those who are experiencing relationship discord, family conflict, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, coping with a chronic illness, grief and loss of a loved one, and/or difficulty with life transitions.
Everyone is faced with obstacles at some point in their lives. Sometimes these challenges bring up different emotions or you feel “stuck” and you find yourself having a difficult time processing them. They may even be affecting your work/school, relationship, family, or day-to-day activities. I provide a safe space to work through these challenges. I believe therapy is a collaborative effort where we work together to navigate through difficult emotions, patterns and behaviors that may be contributing to problems, and any obstacles in the way of change for the better.

I have a wide repertoire, but I specialize in working with individuals and couples on topics like substance use, depression, anxiety, stress, chronic Illness/pain, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ Issues and identity exploration, grief and life transitions.
I have experience working with diverse clients with a variety of needs. The bulk of my career has been working with LGBTQ+ teens, adults with chronic illnesses, and people who use drugs in harm reduction outreach settings. A through-line in these experiences is recognizing the impact biology as well as its interactions with our social environment has on mental & physical health. As such, I apply a systems approach to understand the factors impacting a client and then leverage client strengths to achieve their goals. I welcome conversations about how structural factors impact health and how therapy can be one tool toward healing.

Perhaps you are suffering from depression, anxiety, chronic illness, or addiction.
Now doing In Person Myofascial Release! Talk therapy will remain virtual. Let me help you make some big shifts in your life! Most of the reason why we sabotage or ruin our progress is because our unconscious self is driving our behaviors. I can help you to bring those unconscious beliefs into your awareness so you can change your behaviors that don't serve you anymore. As a body-centered therapist (LPC and LMT), I help people who may be stuck in their healing process and are in need of deep and active work. By utilizing both psychotherapy and Myofascial Release, I help clients heal more effectively.

Chronic Illness Therapists

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
