As a Licensed Professional Counselor, my primary obligation is to respect the integrity and to promote the welfare of my client. I see counseling as a process in which you, the client, and I, the counselor, having come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systemic fashion toward realizing these goals. I will facilitate an atmosphere of warmth and trust in which to establish rapport between you and myself. The objective of therapy is to establish therapeutic goals and implement a planned change in your life.

I have been a practicing psychotherapist for more than thirty years and work with couples, families, and individuals 18 years old and up. My areas of specialty are addiction, alcohol use, anxiety, anger management, behavioral issues, and many more. I use various modalities: Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Existential, Exposure Response Prevention, Schema Therapy, Interpersonal, Marital, and Family Therapy. At times this can appear to be difficult, but it is much more difficult to avoid our problems.

I specialize in alcohol and other drug-related issues, including addiction, alcohol use, substance use disorders, drug and alcohol problems, treatment trauma, peer support, recovery, co-occurring mental health disorders, and harm reduction.
Alcohol and drug problems can be complicated, but seeking help doesn't have to be. You don't need to "hit rock bottom" to make a change. With a passion for aiding individuals in recovery, those grappling with addiction, and those navigating alcohol or substance use, I have expertise in therapy for alcohol and other drug use, harm reduction, and recovery. You might hate AA and be looking to moderate your alcohol intake, or you might be in long-term recovery but struggling to live "life on life's terms." Whatever your difficulty, I am much more openminded than your typical drug or alcohol counselor.

I specialize in women's issues, substance and alcohol use issues, & navigating emotional disturbances to find peace.
Book with me now by clicking on my website. Hello & welcome! I believe that we should prioritize our mental health just as much as we do our physical health. It is very easy to keep trudging along without taking the time to feel our feelings or process our emotions. In therapy, I provide a non-judgmental space to explore past and present feelings and situations. Therapy is not one size fits all and it’s important to find skills and techniques that will help you reach your individual goals. I approach therapy with warmth, compassion, authenticity, and my own lived experience.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
