Hey there, y'all! Welcome to my page. My name is Megan, and I'm from the country outside of Houston, TX. I live in the city now and began working inpatient in the Houston area in 2016. Primarily I have worked with adults with chronic mental illness, but I have experience with all types of clients. I consider mental health multi-faceted and am so happy to be able to help people develop a holistic approach to their own mental health. I emphasize the importance of spiritual, emotional, physical, sexual and intellectual health as a whole.

My ideal client is someone seeking a safe, supportive environment to explore their feelings and experiences. They may be grappling with issues related to sexuality, gender identity, recovering from domestic or sexual violence, or many other issues. Their goals are to gain insight, heal from trauma, and build resilience. They want a non-judgmental space where they can be themselves and work towards a more fulfilling life.

My specialty is working with couples, in particular helping them heal from affairs/betrayals, loneliness, over-the-top conflicts and loss of friendship/romance. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist and Trainer and Consultant for The Gottman Institute. This means I have highly specialized training and experience in helping couples using a researched based, effective modality. A state-of-the-art Love Lab assessment process pinpoints couples issues and helps create a more effective treatment plan. This process mimics Gottman's original research and raises the bar in couples therapy.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (licensed in Texas, Utah, Florida and Maine), approved clinical supervisor and consultant, a Certified Gottman Couples' Therapist and a Master Trainer and Consultant for The Gottman Institute. I offer a welcoming environment for couples and individual adults to work through various concerns and make positive changes in their lives. Working with couples to enhance their relationships is a special area of interest of mine.

I believe that behavior is affected by age, race, class, family, relationships, gender, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, disability status, and that people sometimes need help to reach a state of psychological well-being. Being culturally competent gives me ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures. My approach helps my clients achieve insights, develop strategies and provide tools that can be used immediately to improve your quality of life.

Who among us hasn't felt out-of-sync, overwhelmed or alone? It's not a matter of if something hits us, but when, and I'm not being pessimistic. What determines how well we ride out a crisis is how many healthy coping skills we learn through our life transitions. Even a loving family can’t teach what it doesn’t know. I want clients coming to therapy with me to know that therapy is not about changing you, but about evolving into your more authentic self, dropping unhelpful thinking habits that keep us imprisoned in old hurts, and learning to forgive ourselves & others for not knowing any better. “When we know better, we do better.”

I am passionate about my work, and I particularly enjoy working with couples. Relationships shape the human experience, and I engage with couples and individuals within the context of their own personal and family histories, helping unlock their potential for intimacy and fulfillment. Additionally, I have expertise in working with adolescents, individually or within their family system, facilitating the process of developing independence, coping skills and positive sense of personal identity.

Kingwood Counseling Center is a group of Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, each with unique specializations to meet the needs of the community. We provide psychotherapy and counseling services to children, teens, adults and couples. I am a trauma specialist utilizing EMDR (Certified Practitioner) and Somatic Experiencing (at the Advanced level). After 9 years in the business, what do I think clients want to know up front about our potential process together that will help them decide if we are a good fit?
