As people, we all continue to grow and learn throughout our lifetime. Counseling is just that, growing and learning more about yourself and how you relate to others and the world. If you don't know who you are, I would love to explore that with you. I am a strong believer in equality and in affirming who you are; your values and beliefs. I believe in celebrating and honoring our differences. Everyone struggles from time to time and my passion is to walk along side you and offer you the support you need.

Austinites seek me out to discuss a number of life issues such as depression and anxiety, relationships, intimacy & commitment, sexual orientation & gender identity, family challenges & conflict resolution, coping with grief and loss, trauma, compulsive & addictive behaviors, stress & anger management, and parenting.
For over 34 years I've created collaborative conversations with clients that generate new possibilities for change. I use a postmodern approach and strive to understand how clients make meaning of themselves, others, and the world around them. I tend to be active in those conversations - not passive - and I am respectful and goal-oriented. I also enjoy writing, providing consultation to other professionals, and speaking to audiences about love, dating, and relationships.

As a queer-friendly counselor, I combine my experience as a counselor and energy worker to connect you back to your highest self. I work with individuals with depression, anxiety, self-harm, grief, addiction, life transitions, and identity exploration. Although my formal education and training is in traditional counseling, I have found that my clients enjoy being able to incorporate their spiritual beliefs into counseling, such as through the use of tarot, meditation, breathwork, or deep inner child work. Our souls learn important lessons through our worldly struggles, and my hope is to help you make meaning of your experiences.

Have you experienced trauma in your life? Are you continuing to live with the symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or grief? Or are you a man who is wishing to better understand yourself or your relationships? I believe it is important to understand the goals of each individual and customize therapy to those desired outcomes. Therapy is a collaborative process in which both client and therapist are active participants, working together to reach the goals of the client. I believe it is crucial in this work to create treatment plans that identify where clients are now, where they want to be, and how we plan to get there.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
