As a specialist in teen, young adult, and family therapy, Jason opened Katy Teen & Family Counseling bringing together those therapists who also specialize with teens, young adults, & families.
One of the hardest things we will experience as parents is having a teenager or young adult struggle with an emotional and/or behavioral challenge. There is no handbook written for parents on how to help their child through emotional challenges. Yet we do the best we can and everything in our power to help them through and overcome. We want the child we know is in there, back happy and healthy. There are solutions to Depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, trauma, PTSD. We are specialists in teen, young adult, and family counseling and can help.

As a therapist, former school teacher, and mom, I am deeply invested in the emotional well-being of our young people. My greatest goal in counseling is to give children, teens, and young adults the tools to cope with life's challenges as well as the confidence in themselves to know that they can. Struggles with anxiety, depression, negative self-esteem, academic/work pressures, anger, and family/friendship/relationship issues can all seem that much more overwhelming when we are young. I am passionate about helping young people and families manage these issues now, and helping to set them up for success as they grow.

Therapy isn't supposed to be scary, and we are here to support you, your family, your children, and/or your partner.
Through education and experience, our clinicians know that clients are doing the best they can at all times. Life can be so difficult, and we as humans are tasked with the complex job of navigating those difficulties. Our clinicians utilize a trauma-informed and multi-dimensional approach to help clients understand themselves, others, and their place in the world. However, when working with anyone, our goal is to give you tools, skills, and support to help clients navigate the world outside of therapy. You deserve to feel safe, heard, seen, and understood.

We affirm you for these first steps! Life can be tough at times, and it can lead us down paths that leave us feeling hopeless. Many think that what you’re going through is your fault, some think you can change it on your own, many of you have tried many times to find answers. Addiction, Trauma, and Family Conflict weighs us down in life and leaves us thinking there is no hope. How do we know? We have been there. One thing we believe is people can heal! What if you could redefine, refocus, revive, even recreate the life you deserve? At Redefine Life, this is exactly what we do. We help you become the best version of you!

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Private Practice. I have worked in the mental health field for 20 years, 10 of those years as a therapist. I work with all ages but I love working with families with younger children, teenagers, and young adults. In addition to my work as a therapist, I also serve as a Coach to individuals who could use a little more routine in their lives and the accountability to follow through, by creating structure and new patterns. I also enjoy helping parents navigate familial issues related to their children that can help increase family functioning, improve communication, and better relationships.

Knowledge and proficiency in blending approaches to include family systems, neuron-linguistic programming, psychodrama, psychodynamic approaches, Adlerian, and dialectic behavioral and cognitive behavioral therapies.
I have a zeal for learning ways to inspire and help others. I came to Texas by way of the inner city of Northern New Jersey, and by the way of civil war ravaged Liberia in West Africa. I have learned that relationships continually call us to develop greater consciousness through shedding old beliefs and ways in order to grow. Relationships compel us to bring forth the light of awareness within all of us to engender the courage to be more of the deeper sense of who we are. My approach to counseling germinates from this disposition.

We struggle to know where we fit in - at work, at home, in our social circles. Sometimes you wonder if you're really being understood or feel like an outsider in a group of people. Most of us barely make it out alive and are left buried in anxiety about being good enough, our children being bad kids, our friends and family not understanding us, and exasperation as we try to keep the whole family together while navigating the world of judgment.

Struggling with life changes, or emotions that seem out of control? Sometimes in life we need help sorting out problems and finding our way to the best solution. This is the reason I pursued a counseling career, after working as an educational professional for over 30 years. My experience in education provides me with knowledge of adolescent behaviors, goal setting and addressing family/parenting issues. I’ve honed my counseling skills to also be of help in adult issues such as grief & bereavement, life changes, motivation, as well as depression, anxiety and substance use/addiction disorders.

In 2000 I was 1 of 9 counselors chosen to pioneer a marriage/family counseling contract with the DoD to help U.
If you need strategies to navigate the maze of infidelity, disconnection, or the dreaded "roommate" dynamic, call me! Over the last 20+ years as an LPC, I have guided many couples back to intimacy, trust, and reconnection. Maybe I can help you too. I offer both in-office and video appointments Monday through Thursday 8 am - 8 pm and Friday 8 am - 5 pm. Regardless of your relationship status, I can teach you healthy relationship skills and the mindset that is necessary to make these behaviors into new habits. If you are willing to work, a better marriage can be yours.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
