I am trained as a trauma-informed art therapist and licensed professional counselor with a background in sand tray therapy and play therapy.
Life can oftentimes feel overwhelming and if you have wished for an instruction manual or 'how-to' guide, you are not the first, nor will you be the last. My approach works to help you better understand how best to navigate the world around you, especially if the world was not built with you in mind. Together, we can develop the support, structure, and safety that you deserve while going through life. My practice is neurodivergence-affirming and queer-positive. I strive to foster an environment where you can belong, instead of one where you have to fit in.

Treatment focus: (religious) trauma, complex trauma, open relationship, neurodivergent, anti-capitalist, liberation, anti-carceral, pro-Black.
I’m fucking tired, too – of all of it – but nothing is going to change until we dig deep into the roots of how we got here. We must reckon with our personal and collective past if we’re going to have any real hope of a future worth living in. Healing is like vomiting – the only way to feel better is to get it out. I will be like that friend who holds your hair back as you release whatever’s ailing you. This is a collective effort that we all must hold ourselves accountable to… just come find me when you’re ready to hug the toilet.

I have post-graduate training in the treatment of PTSD & developmental trauma, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, mindfulness, parts work, and DBT/ACT skills.
I hope you take a moment to recognize how much work you’ve done to get to this place. You’ve survived this long, and you should be proud. For most folks, surviving on its own doesn’t cut it anymore. We need to make some adjustments to sustain a more grounded and full life. I want you to experience collaborative healing that is safe, free of judgment, occasionally humorous, and rooted in kindness and gratitude. I currently practice under Therapy Austin and Central Austin Psychotherapy offering in-person and telehealth services.

I am proud to work with clients whose brains are different, whose ways of looking at and interacting with the world are unique, and who are looking to untangle their authentic selves from the mask society pushed them to wear, learn to love/accept themselves as they are, and use this radical self-love to make the changes they want to see. Creative, brave, bold, spicy, innovative, intelligent, justice-oriented - these are the traits that were already there inside those wonderful human beings I serve, and one way or another the world tried to bury them. But the world didn't know they were seeds.

Have you ever felt alone in a crowd? Struggling with the difficulties of your lived experiences and feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders can be a common human experience, and overwhelming to the point of feeling weak, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. When you find yourself grappling with a sense of doom and experiencing a feeling of everything falling apart around you, all you desire is someone who can acknowledge your emotions, stand by your side, actively listen, and empathize with your situation.

I primarily work with clients within queer community, especially trans folks, and lifestyles such as kink, polyamory, or sex work. My hope is to provide a safe space (and a sliding scale!) where you don't have to spend your time in therapy educating your therapist on the concepts that are everyday within your own life. I love work around emotional regulation, communication and conflict resolution, with individuals and with multiple people within a relationship, to help develop healthier coping mechanisms, processing techniques, and self-acceptance/self-care methods to improve feelings of empowerment, security, and life satisfaction.

Howdy! I'm Kelsey, a fat, disabled, queer nonbinary writer, artist, and social worker. I use they/them pronouns. Are you looking for someone who will be with you every step of the way toward relief from anxiety and depression? Is your goal to thrive? Do you like to get a little existential? (And do you identify as a huge nerd?) I may be a good fit! The nuts and bolts of it is—as a therapist, I strive to build connection, a sense of safety, and a space where clients can relax into their most authentic selves. I work with kids, teens, adults 18+, and couples.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
