We all have a story to tell. Maybe your story is one that includes traumatic experiences such as manipulation, sexual abuse, or sexual assault. Maybe you are experiencing loneliness, depression, or anxiety. You might be struggling at school, work, or in your relationships. Maybe you want to leave a relationship and do not know how. Or maybe, just maybe, you feel like life is okay, but really could be better. You do not have to figure things out on your own. Talking helps. Therapy is not just for certain kinds of people. It can be beneficial for anyone, including you.

As a survivor of childhood sexual assault, physical and mental abuse, and rape, I understand how important it is to feel safe in your environment, which is why I offer Mobile Counseling. I come to you, in an environment of your choosing, because unless you feel safe and comfortable, your healing will not progress the way you need it to. I customize each treatment plan according to your needs, and adjust accordingly. I do not believe in cookie cutter counseling/therapy, as rape and violence is not cookie cutter. If you are ready to stop surviving your life and start living your life, then I am the counselor for you.

I have extensive experience working with families that have experienced domestic violence and survivors of sexual assault.
Life can be so challenging. Even when "good" things happen to us, it can bring stress and grief. Deciding to work with a counselor is a bold and brave step toward coping with whatever life is giving you. Having a person to help you process issues is liberating. By learning about your strengths and by learning how to use them effectively, you can begin to heal and transform into the person you were meant to be. I have worked with many different presenting issues including anxiety, depression, lgbtqia+ issues, family and parenting issues, school related issues/microaggressions, and many more.

Do anxiety, generation trauma ("what happens at home stays home" and never resolved), sexual abuse, addiction and insecurities run your life more than your values and dreams? Do you relive the past as if it were happening right now? Your head knows better, but it fails to convince your heart otherwise. As challenging as those experiences were for the past, they continue to zap away your joy and confidence today. You might even avoid situations that trigger the feelings.

Do you suffer from trauma due to sexual abuse, abusive relationships, unresolved childhood trauma, and/or generational trauma? We hold on to that trauma in their Physical bodies without knowing. This and the emotional trauma an individual endures show up in our lives even when the action is over. Every relationship is affected as well as how we show up in our lives with work and other activities. This can show up in an abundance of ways. Deep down, we know something is off and want to heal and show up differently; however, we don't know how.

It’s my fault. I should have known better. I could have stopped it. If you are here you may have experienced sexual abuse as a child or someone has forced, tricked, or pressured you into something sexual. Your mind screamed no, but your voice remained silent. Fear paralyzed you. Memories are foggy, but haunting. You feel dirty, used and ashamed. You hate your body. Anxiety and sadness consume you. It feels like you have been torn to pieces and your power taken. Every decision and feeling is followed by confusion and doubt. Can I ever trust my instincts again? All you want is to forget it happened and move on with your life.

I specialize in PTSD, complex trauma, family violence, sexual assault, grief/loss, anxiety, depression, substance use, anger management, self-esteem, suicidal ideations, intergenerational family trauma, and co-occurring disorders.
I believe that individuals are unique; each possessing their OWN worldview, which, ultimately, would make you the expert of your own life. Sometimes in life, we need assistance in our journey towards the realization and fulfillment of our own talents and potentials: self-actualization. I assist my clients by enabling them to move towards openness, developing a greater trust in themselves, building the willingness to process, and increase self-realization. All while providing a non-judgmental environment where your personal life experiences are heard, and you are valued as the unique human being that you are.

I have also worked with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Sometimes, life can feel hopeless or overwhelming. Sometimes, we find that the coping tools we have relied on are no longer working to manage the altered reality around us. Sometimes, we all need help, and reaching out is the first step. My approach to therapy is client-centered and eclectic, but I believe in focusing on individual strengths and finding solutions-focused methods to address individual problems. With experience living and working in diverse societies, I seek to understand your unique cultural perspectives and values. I use cognitive and behavioral approaches, but I am open to adjusting my techniques.

I have worked at a crisis center for domestic violence and sexual abuse, at a Children’s Advocacy Center providing services to the non-offending caregivers of children that have endured sexual abuse, and providing trauma informed therapy to adults that have experienced trauma in a community health clinic.
Everyone should have accessible mental health services in order to maintain their overall well-being. As a Bilingual (English/Spanish) Licensed Professional Counselor, my work primarily consists of working with those who have experienced sexual abuse, domestic violence, trauma, grief, depression/anxiety, and other life transitions. My work centers specifically with women and young adults. As a first generation Latina I can understand the struggles and anxieties that can come about when seeking mental health services.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
