Everyone at times experiences negative emotions such as sadness, anger or anxiety, but when these emotions become constant companions it is often a sign that something has gone awry. By the time we come to psychotherapy, the task of altering these emotions may feel difficult or impossible to navigate alone. As a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic therapist, I am interested in how your early relationships impact your relationships, personality, perceptions and coping mechanisms. Through the therapeutic process, I aim to help my clients gain insight, learn new ways of relating and implement change in order to heal, grow and flourish.

I have a Master's in Counseling Psychology and advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy which is grounded in psychoanalytic theory.
Life's journey is often challenging, and along the way, we may develop troubling symptoms such as relationship difficulties, anxiety and depression. These symptoms often communicate and reveal deep-seated aspects of our suffering, fears, and desires. I work to build a trusting relationship where my clients can safely self-reflect and work toward desired change. Therapy provides a space to explore parts of your experience that profoundly impact your life but may feel too overwhelming to face alone. It can also enhance your ability to connect more authentically with others while maintaining a strong and positive sense of self.

I help people feeling anxious and stressed about life not feel anxious and stressed about life. We will work collaboratively, as a team, to decrease your reactivity and increase your tolerance of adverse emotional experiences. My job is not to fix you, but to help you process your emotions and allow for the development of insight as to what’s driving them. I look forward to working with you to find clarity so you can live the life you want. I utilize CBT and psychoanalytic theory.

Upon graduation, I completed a two-year Psychodynamic Psychotherapy fellowship at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies in Houston.
Navigating the decision to engage in the therapeutic process can feel overwhelming and intimidating. However, the journey can be one of great reward. Treatment begins with an understanding of you as a unique individual; through collaboration as well as active engagement the process of individual, couple, family, or group therapy evolves. Therapy includes exploration of your past and present relationships, experiences, and struggles so that a deeper understanding of self can be achieved. Greater self-awareness allows for the opportunity to make intentional choices, increased confidence in your authentic self, and navigation of future struggles in an effective way.

Grounded in psychoanalytic theory, I have studied at Smith College, Columbia University, The Center for Psychoanalytic Studies, The Harvard Program in Refugee Studies, and currently, at the Institute for Clinical Social Work.
“We are hurt in relationship; we heal in relationship” is the core conviction of my therapeutic approach. From the time our earliest map forms in our families, we see the world through the lens of our experience. It’s through relationships that our worldview expands and our sense-of-self matures, especially if we take time for inquiry and insight, and to integrate what we learn. I work from a self-in-context perspective, deeply attuning to the ways not only our family, religion, and culture impact us, but how inequities around race, gender, and sexuality inform our sense of self-and-other as well.

I use a psychoanalytic and cognitive-behavioral approach with my clients.
"There are many ways of getting strong, sometimes talking is the best way..." - Andre Agassi ....Individuals from all walks of life, ethnicities, and backgrounds experience feelings of depression, anxiety, frustration, or hopelessness. We sometimes find ourselves unable to communicate the way we would like to or lack the motivation to even try.

If you have a feeling that you may be holding yourself back from experiencing your full potential because of trauma, difficult to manage emotions, addiction or depression, psychoanalytic psychotherapy may be a beneficial path for you. This type of therapy helps you explore how things outside of your awareness affect your life and is focused on helping you unravel patterns that may be making you feel stuck or alone. If you are interested in going beyond symptom relief to explore yourself on a deeper level, I would be honored to meet you in that journey.

I completed psychoanalytic training at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies in Houston, and I am now a faculty member there.
I work primarily with adults and adolescents who are having trouble negotiating difficult life stages. I treat both short-term, acute problems and more pervasive, long-standing problems. My years of training, first in CBT, and later in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches allow me to use both in my practice. The client and I decide on treatment approaches based on his or her strengths and preferences.

My training includes personal study of psychoanalytic theory and Jungian depth psychology, as well as a decade of my own therapy.
Every person has the potential to live with more freedom, joy, ease, and love, and therapy supports us to realize this potential. Many of my clients have experienced various forms of relational trauma — including wounding that has occurred in intimate relationships or in childhood — and yearn to heal from these experiences and find healthier ways of dealing with addiction or problematic substance use, stress, anxiety, depression, compulsive behaviors, relationship difficulties, and other challenging emotions. My goal is to help you live with more peace, acceptance, autonomy, confidence, satisfaction, intimacy, and joy.

Therapy is a partnership that grows in an atmosphere of safety and acceptance. It allows one to rediscover the parts of selves which may have been disowned; to learn new skills to handle grief and distress; to build healthier, more nurturing relationships; and to gain access to one's own direct experience of the world. I nurture this collaboration with clients and recognize that within each of us there exists a deeper wisdom that, given adequate support, naturally moves toward healing and integration.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
