My particular passion is for taking broken and hurting marriages and helping restore them to God's design for how a marriage relationship is supposed to work. I have helped many couples recover successfully from infidelity. I also work with a broad range of issues, including depression, anxiety, caregiver issues, grief, and life-stage adjustments. I love doing premarital counseling, and believe that this is a critical step in establishing a healthy marriage. I am also familiar with military/ veteran issues.

I am a partner advocate with a heart for those who have experienced betrayal trauma in relationship and am honored to work with you regardless of relationship status, meeting you where you are on your path back to self through boundaries, self-trust, addressing grief, and clarity around wants and needs.
Something just didn’t feel right but you couldn't put your finger on it until the day you discovered that your spouse or significant other had been unfaithful. You have lots of questions but your anxiety is too high to make sense of your dilemma. You may be experiencing sleep issues, your appetite may be different, you may even find that you are easily startled or quick to anger – the gravity of the grief you are experiencing is without compare. Whatever you are feeling is valid and it is far from where you want to be. Problematic sexual behavior is pandemic . . It's impact, betrayal trauma, affects all areas of one’s life.

Betrayal or Brink of Divorce? If people were to observe you from across the room, they might look at you and think everything was perfect. After all, you look pleasant and normal enough. What they wouldn't know by looking at you is that you're managing to hide the confusion, grief, heartbreak, and despair that someone who is experiencing the unraveling of a marriage would understand. Yes, you put up a good front because you have to, but the truth is that you're in the midst of dealing with what is perhaps the biggest disappointment of your life.

I deeply value marital and relationship fulfillment. If you are an adult seeking marriage, dating, premarital, affairs, or other relationship counseling, then we are likely to be a good fit for each other. Since 1987 I have focused as a psychologist full-time on developing and implementing specialized expertise in couples and other adult relationship counseling. Together we may assess in a friendly way what is happening in your relationship, how it developed to be this way, and what may be done to improve communication, build trust, strengthen emotional connections, enhance intimacy, and otherwise fulfill your relationship goals.

My specific niches are working with ethnic and sexual minorities, childhood and betrayal trauma, and communication and intimacy issues.
In our relationships, we hope to feel connected, cared for, and understood. However, after a conversation with a loved one, you may find yourself feeling frustrated, misunderstood, or exhausted. Conversations can feel like they're going in circles and you may be blowing up or shutting down before reaching a resolution. You may even find yourself communicating in ways that hinder connection and understanding because you aren't sure how else to express how you feel. If this sounds familiar, please understand that you're not alone. Together we can all work to process those responses and have healthier conversations.

I'm so glad you found me! I love working with adults concerning anxiety, depression and trauma. Anxiety isn't just fear/nervousness. Anxiety happens when we aren't willing to process difficult emotions. Anxiety can present itself through anger/projection, isolation, busyness, and being unusually overwhelmed. As I operate within the Bowen Family Systems theory, a safe space is created that promotes the ability to process these undesired emotions lending the ability to promote emotional resiliency, maturity and balance! I also thoroughly enjoy couples counseling with an emphasis on conflict resolution and affair/betrayal recovery.

Infidelity Therapists
How does therapy for infidelity work?
A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.
How long does therapy for infidelity take?
Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.
How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?
When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.
How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?
Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
