trauma and PTSD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), especially the DBT skills training components regarding distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness (assertiveness), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I'm a licensed clinical social worker with about 7 years clinical experience. I have worked with both youth and adults. I enjoy working with young adults who may benefit from mentoring and the support of a caring listener in exploring who they are becoming. I also enjoy working with adults to support increased self-care and well-being. Beyond this, I have experience and training in treating many common mental health conditions, especially adult PTSD, anxiety, depression, and sleep difficulties.

My overall approach is humanistic, incorporating elements of person-centered, CBT, DBT, solution-focused, and Gestalt therapies to provide a personalized, compassionate experience.
Life can be challenging, and sometimes, we find ourselves facing tough situations, whether we’re prepared for them or not. These experiences impact us in many ways, but remember, seeking help is not a sign of weakness; it’s a sign of strength. I truly believe that counseling is a powerful tool that can help you navigate through these challenges, offering you a path to healing, growth, and a brighter future.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to better understand current thought processes and learn to restructure those thoughts for more positive feelings and behaviors.
You deserve to live a life that leaves you excited to wake up every morning. You may find yourself feeling overwhelmed with the day-to-day, struggling to build self-confidence or challenged to engage with others in a meaningful way. Stress, depression, and anxiety take many forms and impact our lives in substantial ways. Pursuing counseling is a wonderful step towards a positive change. In counseling, I work with clients to understand the cause of their symptoms, their goals, and a plan forward. I have extensive experience working with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, and low self-confidence.

I work from a trauma-informed perspective that includes cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness.
Every emotion, thought, or feeling we experience is valid and has the potential to influence our lives. Feeling intense emotions, especially around feelings of grief, can be difficult to process and at times we need to seek clarity for what we are experiencing. I learned this during my own grief journey through the losses of loved ones. We will work together to create worthwhile, real change. I will offer my support in a nurturing and non-judgmental environment. I will offer a specialized approach to each session because every person is unique.

I often pull from Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, attachment theory, and family systems theory.
I believe we cannot change things that are outside of our awareness, and we cannot grow without first having acceptance of where we are in our journey. The things that we seek to change about ourselves are not “weaknesses;” in fact, the very behaviors and beliefs that are no longer serving us now may have been necessary survival defenses at one point in life. My goal is to help you understand where in life you developed those behaviors/beliefs, how they have shaped you, and how they can be shifted into a more healthy, adaptive approach moving forward.

My approach to treatment is client-centered, individualized, and incorporates CBT & DBT principles.
Adulthood can generally mean transitions, complex relationships, self-doubt, and uncertainty. Unfortunately, nobody told us how to navigate all of this and it can feel really challenging to balance all of the responsibilities. If things in your life feel really overwhelming or you notice that your life feels stagnant and you want to keep growing, you don’t have to go through it alone. I meet you where you’re at and we work to add tools to your toolbox in a safe and non-judgmental space. I want to work with you to help you discover a peaceful relationship with yourself.

My approach is through a trauma-informed lens that uses Narrative Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
I may be a tad bit biased, but I believe therapy to be one of the most monumental and beneficial experiences a person can be a part of. Therapy creates a safe and warm environment for one to learn how to be compassionate towards their younger self, empower their current self, and also fight for their future self. Because of this, therapy has long-lasting impacts on your self-identity, interpersonal relationships, cultural aspects, professional endeavors, and most importantly, your ability to withstand adversity and grow through hardships.

I am trained in DBT to treat personality disorders and use cognitive and existential techniques to assist clients in exploring new, healthy ways of seeing themselves and the world.
Howard Thurman writes, "Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." My goal as a therapist is to partner with you on your journey and help you find what makes you come alive. Ask yourself this question: "Who could I be?" The person you could be is calling you forward out of who you have been.

I offer individual, couples, and family therapy formats for adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, or attachment trauma. **I am also trained in DBT and Self Compassion and offer 1:1 work.** Struggles we face in life can negatively influence our understanding of ourselves, others, and the world around us in ways that keep us stuck, afraid, and unhealthy. Processing these difficult experiences can allow us to break free from this influence and show up in the world in ways that align with our inherent goodness, enabling feelings of success and happiness. You deserve to feel these things and more!

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
