At Home Body Counseling, Sarah Shelton uses somatic-based therapies - EMDR, Brainspotting, and Somatic Experiencing - to help clients increase body awareness, capacity to manage distress, and release trauma.
Sarah Shelton created Home Body Counseling for those looking to feel more calm and connected in their body and relationships. Feeling daily anxiety, overwhelm, and grief makes it hard to be present, know ourselves, enjoy our lives, or relate to others. Because our bodies hold onto past experiences, it's important we begin there to help us feel, care, and heal. Being able to slow down, witness, and see all parts of ourselves is how we begin to unburden and release stuck energy from our bodies to become more regulated and whole. This is your invitation to feel at home and at ease in your body, your life. You are welcome here.

We offer EMDR, Brainspotting, Parts Work and Functional Nutrition to heal the whole individual.
You believe the only person you can trust and depend on is you. You desire to be in deeper relationships but back away when people get too close. You long to have a social life, yet feel on guard and more focused on the numerous thoughts circling through your mind then the conversation with loved ones. Criticism and self-blame become all too common. Feeling trapped, fighting an internal battle of what to do, it’s almost easier to stay to yourself. Ultimately, you make it through the day but aren’t truly living.

My extensive training & experience in proven trauma therapies such as EMDR, IFS, Brainspotting & somatic therapy allows me to help adults heal their inner child from complex trauma experiences, explore all aspects of themselves to become more self-actualized versions of themselves, leave intergenerational trauma behind & reframe themselves as survivors.
Have you found yourself overwhelmed by the weight of past trauma either from childhood abuse, intergenerational trauma, or sexual assault & feeling stuck with the memories playing out in your head? Or maybe you’ve been saying “I need to get back to my old self,” or “I’ve been dealing with a lot lately” & hoping for the insight or tools to change that? I work with adults & LGBTQIA folks just like you: ones that have it within them to thrive again after trauma & life challenges, but just need the support to tap into their strengths to get there or support gathering & sorting pieces of life to make sense of everything.

I use brainspotting to quickly heal your brain from trauma and anxiety.
You're a high achieving perfectionist with anxiety. You've been told that you're "Too sensitive" & "Too much." Everyone comes to you for help, but you have no one to turn to. You don't fit in anywhere- not even in your marriage. It's hard to be authentic with others 'cos they don't get you. You're lonely & anxious. You've pushed the trauma so deep down that you're in survival mode. On the outside things seem great, but you're a mess on the inside. You don't know how to stop people pleasing & perfectionism. You've prayed and read books, but you're feeling desperate. You need long-lasting change NOW.

I use Brainspotting and EMDR to help you achieve the movement and healing you deserve.
Spiritual/Religious abuse & trauma have similar components to childhood attachment trauma, so I work with both populations. The guilt, shame, isolation, fear of abandonment, and rejection may look like codependence, relationship avoidance, anxiety, and depression. You have difficulty trusting in relationships or find yourself drawn to other emotionally unavailable people. You've lost sight of who you are. There's a root, and my goal is to help you heal that root so you can see yourself differently and connect with others from a healthier mindset, thus engaging in healthier relationships. Find your confidence, your inner self.

Among these somatic therapies are Internal Family Systems (IFS), Brainspotting, and Applied Polyvagal Theory.
Feeling anxious or depressed is often the result of chronic stress, unresolved trauma or grief. I work with adults who struggle with intense emotions or have coped through numbing them. Some suffer from physical discomfort or chronic pain, while others struggle in their relationships, or engage in behaviors that both soothe and hurt them. If that resonates with you, I would love to offer you my attention and guiding skills to help you explore and make sense of your inner experiences in order to heal wounds and access more calm, clarity, confidence, compassion, and connection with yourself and others, so that you may feel more alive!

I seamlessly integrate behavioral methods like Acceptance & Commitment Therapy & graduated exposure with methods from my trauma-informed coaching using Internal Family Systems, polyvagal theory, Brainspotting, & hypnosis.
You can visualize your ideal self, yet anxiety, trauma, and negative habits are holding you back. I have been there and I understand the struggle, but your actions and thoughts are all behavior and they can be changed. With my unique approach as a behavior analyst and trauma-informed coach, we can collaboratively devise a tailored plan for meaningful change. While traditional talk therapy has its merits, I'm not a therapist—I am a behavioral scientist and coach. If you've hit a plateau in your self-help journey or feel stuck in your current behaviors, let's explore a more structured, action-based path to healing and growth.

Brainspotting Therapists
How does brainspotting work?
Brainspotting works by using eye positioning to identify and process traumatic memories so that a client is better able to move forward and live with less fear. The theory behind brainspotting is that by identifying where a person looks when thinking of traumatic memories, a therapist will be able to guide them to focus on that spot and work with the client to get them out of the “fight, flight, freeze” response associated with the traumatic memory.
Is brainspotting an evidence-based therapy?
Brainspotting is a theory-based alternative therapy. It is one of the newest forms of treatment, so very little research has been completed that examines the mechanism by which it works. The theory behind brainspotting is that eye position can be linked to areas of the brain that store and process memory.
How effective is brainspotting?
Because it is such a new treatment, the effectiveness of brainspotting cannot be quantified. Some people have found it to be effective on its own, or in conjunction with other types of therapy. It is considered an alternative therapy, and it is popular with people for whom more traditional therapies have proven ineffective.
How long does brainspotting take to work?
A typical brainspotting session will last between 60 to 90 minutes. There is no required number of sessions needed to complete brainspotting therapy, but in many cases it is delivered over the course of about six sessions. Clients are encouraged to rate their level of distress prior to a session and again following a session, and to track progress.
