Originally from Virginia and after moving to Texas, I taught school for 14 years in Houston ISD and at Presbyterian School in the museum district. With increasing desire to help students with emotional and social issues, I returned to the University of Houston--Clear Lake and earned my master's degree in Clinical Psychology. I completed my intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy at Menninger with Shari Manning, PhD and Karyn Hall, PhD. Starting in January of 2013, I worked as a practicum student and LPC-Intern at The DBT Center of Houston.

As an immigrant, mother, and friend, I understand firsthand what it’s like to navigate new situations and pivot when things aren’t working or meeting your needs. My approach to therapy is deeply personalized. I know that each person brings unique experiences, challenges, and strengths, so I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to mental health.

As a Licensed Chiropractor with a background in Psychology, Human Biology, and Kinesiology, my passion lies in providing a holistic approach to health that integrates both physical and mental well-being. In my practice, I have found that many patients seek not just physical relief but also a space to discuss their emotional and mental challenges. This realization inspired me to pursue a counseling degree, allowing me to address not only musculoskeletal issues but also mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and severe conditions like psychosis and schizophrenia.

You thought you had everything together, then you became a parent. You're used to getting things done and done well. Despite being smart, hard-working, and ambitious, you feel like you're failing in every area of your life. You feel guilty for not savoring motherhood like everyone on the internet does. You feel both pulled in a million directions and stagnant. You feel exhausted, unappreciated, and selfish for wanting more. You conclude something must be wrong with you. Guilt and anxiety get in the way of the life you want in so many ways. You don't feel like yourself and your confidence is tanking.

Life inevitably brings us painful feelings, thoughts, and experiences that we often respond to by trying to suppress, run away from, avoid, or numb ourselves. This may result in struggles such as addiction, anxiety, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, etc., and may cause us to lash out at our loved ones or act in ways we do not feel good about. My clinical approach is inspired by the concept that we cannot always “get rid of” painful parts of our lives or the things outside our control, but what we can do is work to develop a different relationship with them so that they come to have less influence or power over us day to day.

My ideal client is anyone who is struggling to find peace within their own mental health. The client may have issues of grief, past betrayals, or major life changes. The client only wants to come to a place of acceptance with the things that have happened in their life. They want to be validated in the knowledge that their experience and feelings are real. They also want help in moving past their current place and reaching their goals. They want to be at a state of inner peace. When this is not possible they want the skills to be able to cope.

My priority is creating a safe space for you to express yourself openly and authentically, as I believe healing happens through connection. For some people, therapy is an opportunity to problem-solve a current challenge, and for others it is a chance to gain a better understanding of themselves and the experiences that brought them to where they are. Whatever your reason, as your therapist, I hope to partner with you in meeting your goals.

Change is the only constant part of life. We might as well embrace it and move forward. What if we made it a point everyday to own our choices beginning with how we treat ourselves and how we choose to treat others. And more importantly, what would happen if we choose to learn something new from our decisions. What if our failures were actually an awakening and an opportunity to redefine happiness. Let's find the right conversation to lead you in your quest to make the necessary changes you need to enjoy life and reconnect with those who mean the most.

I am eager to assist you in maneuvering through your change process. Life often gives us challenges that are more difficult to embrace than others. As a result, we overlook the growth opportunities that are gifted to us in these challenges. It would be my pleasure to help the individual, couple, family or group of people collectively to heal from their personal pains and to discover the full capacity of his or her best self.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
