Therapy for busy burnt out people pleasers. Did you know that asking for what you want or need will not cause you to lose people in your life? Did you know that you don't HAVE to stretch yourself thinner than 1 ply tissue paper? There's actually a version of your life where you aren't last on the list. And you won't feel any guilt about it either. All of that resentment you have toward your loved ones, because all of the things you've said yes to when you should've said no, will disappear. In our work together, we'll use holistic wellness practices and lifestyle changes to transform how you view yourself and your relationships.

Are you tired of feeling unhappy with yourself or disappointed that your life is not going the way you had hoped? You may feel like you have done or are doing everything “right” but it is not bringing you the joy you had anticipated. Maybe you are wanting change or to feel more connected but don’t know how to make these things happen. Perhaps you are struggling with your relationships, a life change, or are exhausted from trying to make everyone happy and do things “perfectly”. You may feel like you don’t have anyone who understands or supports you or don’t have someone with whom you feel comfortable talking about certain issues.

If you’re looking for a safe space to heal, grow, and/or transform pain into resilience then you’re in the right place. Emotions are part of being human, but you knew that right? Well, I also like to think of them as indicators. Emotional experiences aren’t without reason, oftentimes they’re trying to tell us something. Emotions can help us uncover valuable information about our needs, desires, and areas that may benefit from healing. I enjoy helping fellow humans make sense of their past, as they work on the present, to achieve sustainable change for a more fulfilling future. Understanding your experience matters to me.

My ideal clients are children, teens, and adults who are struggling with feelings of worry, isolation, worthlessness, and hopelessness. Clients who want to work to develop goals in order to better their mental health and overall well-being. Clients should be motivated and ready to work, as well as, be open-minded, flexible, and adaptable. Change is a process, but it is necessary to make progress. From our sessions, my client will be encouraged to focus on what motivates them for change rather than what discourages them.

Life presents many circumstances that can be difficult for any person to navigate on their own. We aren’t born with the emotional regulation skills or coping skills needed to deal with the complexities of this fast-paced, high-pressure society. Some days we may be consumed with negative thoughts that hinder us from being who we want to be. Some days we are flooded with big emotions that are hard to control and seem to overpower us. Some days we experience worries that seem so big that it's hard for us to function.

Contrary to popular opinion that can characterize therapy as designed for unhealthy or dysfunctional people, my experience and belief is that therapy is for people seeking to improve their lives and their relationships. Whether it is a relationship with ourselves, with a spouse, partner, family or friends, many of us long for better connections and more empowerment in our lives. The good news is that we can learns skills to live more satisfying lives. Research on brain plasticity validates that we can change. Research also suggests we tend to do what we have already done, whether it works or not! Therapy can change this!

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
