I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief, utilizing evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I believe that seeking help is often the hardest and most courageous step. Brene Brown beautifully said that "courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen." Vulnerability, shame, and fear can make sharing difficult, but these are normal companions on the path to change. Trusting the process and accepting your emotions are key steps. Through our darkest times, there is much to be gleaned, and as your therapist, I am here to walk alongside you through the ups and downs of your journey.

My therapeutic perspective relies on Positive Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy, proven counseling techniques to help clients understand their perceptions (or misperceptions) and provide tools for positive life changes.
At our first session, we will focus on your concerns, what brought you into therapy, and any other contributing factors. I will ask questions to clarify my understanding of your concerns, and to get you to begin thinking differently about your situation. We'll discuss your goals and expectations, and how you will know when things are better. My intent will be to help you get "unstuck" from psychological problems, and become the best problem-solver you can be. While collectively working to restore your self-respect, self-worth, and self-mastery.

I am a cognitive-behavioral therapist, working from the perspective that when we change our thoughts and our behaviors we can change our lives.
Disruptions in relationships regularly occur in life and the experience of feeling disconnected is not uncommon. Many of us have experienced children growing older and leaving home, job loss, retirement, frequent arguments with those closest to us, divorce, separation, and death of loved ones. Some of us have experienced life threatening events, serious illnesses and physical losses that result in a dramatic shift on how we fit into the world and in the lives of others. These events can result in a loss of satisfaction in life or at times a loss of hope in having a life worth living.

I draw from evidence-based interventions, such as person-centered, solution-focused, cognitive behavioral therapy ( CBT), and the Gottman Method for couples.
Have you thought about therapy before, but were worried that you'd be misunderstood or judged? Did you grow up in an environment where asking for help was seen as a sign of "weakness"? Do you find yourself not wanting to share your thoughts, feelings, and needs in your relationship because you're worried about "saying the wrong thing" and how your partner will react? Whether you're facing challenges with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, family dysfunction, addictions, racism, or other obstacles, my goal is to help you discover your strengths, deepen your relationships, and live closer to your most authentic self.

I believe in cognitive behavioural therapy as a solid way to help connect the dots.
If you are making major life changes, transitioning to the next stage, questioning, feeling depressed, anxious, and are ready to put in the work for yourself to be a better you, then mental health therapy is a good way to guide that process.

I am also a Certified Trauma Professional, trained in EMDR and DBT to treat trauma and improve coping skills, and use a Person-Centered, cognitive, strengths-based and culturally-inclusive approach.
When life becomes overwhelming, it may seem daunting to reach out for care. Maybe you are struggling with work or school, battling expectations from others or yourself, or struggling with long-held tendencies like perfectionism, people-pleasing, or avoidance. Often we struggle with ourselves - our inner critic, self-doubt, past wounds, and overwhelming emotions like fear, anger, and hopelessness. Often we believe that we just have to “figure it out” and shoulder our burdens alone, but that is not true. You are worthy of attention, care, and healing, and now you’ve come to the right place to find hope and grow into your best self.

Change is the only constant part of life. We might as well embrace it and move forward. What if we made it a point everyday to own our choices beginning with how we treat ourselves and how we choose to treat others. And more importantly, what would happen if we choose to learn something new from our decisions. What if our failures were actually an awakening and an opportunity to redefine happiness. Let's find the right conversation to lead you in your quest to make the necessary changes you need to enjoy life and reconnect with those who mean the most.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
