Do you feel pulled in a million directions, unable to fit it all in? Are you struggling to keep up with your relationships, work and health? Are you feeling overwhelmed or just plain stuck in life? I help people restructure their damaged relationships. Relationships are more than romantic interactions between two people. Relationships as I define it can be with anyone or anything that you exchange energy with. The biggest relationship that we struggle to understand and grow with is the person staring at us in the mirror each morning. No matter what relationship your struggling with ( work, home, family, yourself.) I'm here to help.

Paul works with his clients to help identify unconscious patterns and themes that may be affecting their daily lives and relationships and bring them to the conscious mind. Collaborating with them to heal and move forward—past any recurring thoughts and behaviors causing distress or holding them back—towards increased self-awareness and a deeper sense of purpose and meaning.

Joseph Campbell once said, "The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are." As a therapist, I believe there can be no greater goal than to help you become your authentic self. By acknowledging you as the expert in your own life, and not imposing my own ideas of who you "should" be, my role is to help you work through any old survival strategies, reactive patterns, and physical/emotional traumas that prevent you from being the person you were meant to be, and living the life you were meant to live.

Navigating transition and uncertainty alone can be daunting and generate fears that keep us stuck. We can feel trapped in our heads, and whether change is something we are actively pursuing or is a condition we feel is forced upon us, it can be difficult to find a way out, especially all on our own! Therapy can be a place to unburden ourselves and share our minds with someone who can provide an outside perspective and help us move forward with purpose. It can also be especially helpful for people who struggle with vulnerability and shame and provide a safe space to express and process emotions and struggles.

I am dedicated to helping clients improve their lives and achieve self-transformation. This includes learning to cope, manage, overcome and transcend mental health issues. Building mindfulness and emotional awareness is key to understanding how our belief systems and emotions drive our decisions/behaviors. Our sessions will be fully engaged in building healthier thoughts, feelings, emotions, beliefs, values, perceptions, assumptions so that we can reshape our life narrative and see reality differently. Each individual is capable of healing psychological wounds, finding peace and balance, while being centered and present.

I have counseled individuals, families, and couples for forty-four years. I assist clients with issues that include depression, anxiety, family communication, career choices, and the stress of physical illness. Trained in psychodynamic, client-centered, and Jungian methods, I tailor counseling to the needs of clients. I favor approaches that respect innate creativity, core values, and interdependence. In addition to talking, other modalities may include relaxation and imagery, sometimes called self-hypnosis, journaling, and the use of art. As a former priest I bring to my practice the conviction that problems are ultimately resolved by finding meaning and purpose.

Life throws so much at us, and sometimes we need to make the space to talk about it. Whether we deal with difficult emotions, grief, relationship issues, or existential questions about life, your story and how you tell it matters. Let's learn to tell a good one together.

I am an addiction specialist treating compulsive behaviors for the last ten years. I have helped people struggling with substance, food, gambling and compulsive sexual behaviors. I am a licensed clinical social worker and a certified sexual addiction therapist. With this experience I have specialized in developing techniques to support the parents and partners in relationship with those in active addiction. There is a reason addiction is our number one public health issue and the sooner people intervene on themselves or others the sooner recovery begins.

Life is challenging in 2024. Many of us learn to worry incessantly and criticize ourselves. Many of us battle anxiety and depression. Many of us are looking for answers, acceptance and validation. The search for serenity can leave us exhausted and bewildered. The pressures of a modern life can lead to loneliness and sadness. Fortunately, we do not have to face life's most daunting moments alone.

We can feel the most alone when we are hurting. We might struggle to even feel heard or understood. For therapy to be successful one has to feel heard, understood, and accepted with non-judgmental empathy. This is the foundation of my approach. Together we will explore your challenges, identify the obstacles you face, and find ways to navigate around them. I use an action driven approach to help clients gain insight and inspiration to discover solutions for their troubles.

Congratulations on reaching out for help! I've been there and know it's not easy. In fact it's scary as hell! The fact is everyone on this planet struggles. It's the human condition and we all need help from time to time. I guarantee you that if I'm having problems with my plumbing, I call a plumber. I've been a therapist now for 30 years and can safely say I've pretty much seen it all. Most of us think our problems are really different than everyone else's, but I assure you we're all much more alike than we are different. The truth is everyone just wants to be happy, feel at peace, and have successful loving relationships.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
