I often use a solution-focused approach and I take into account family systems and dynamics.
For many, deciding to meet with a therapist is a big decision. Often times it is seen as a last resort. Talking to family and friends is not always the preferred way of dealing with a situation and that is when talking to a professional is something to consider. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, mood disorders, grief, PTSD, family dynamic problems, couples, parent-child relationships and more. I strive to help my clients learn the skills to work with whatever life throws at them.

I work with people who are struggling with anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem, as well as the BIPOC community struggling with identity issues, trauma and family conflict specifically in the Asian American community.
Are you feeling overwhelmed with the expectations and pressures of life? Do you feel lost or riddled with overthinking, which causes you to be unproductive and emotionally vulnerable? I understand when life feels routinely intrusive, it is hard to know what to do next; contact me. I offer you a safe space to be heard, validated, encouraged, and challenged.

Seven years of School Counseling experience gives me a unique perspective to address school behaviors and family dynamics.
Now Accepting Insurance - Aetna. My number one passion is parent coaching... Every child is different and parents often need a specific skillset to parent effectively. I'm trained in trauma and resiliency counseling - many experiences can be traumatic - hurricanes, flooding, divorce, accidents, assault, chronic pain, work issues - even COVID is considered traumatic to some people. Anxiety and depression are increasing as the long-term effects of COVID are being discovered.

A child’s behavior is telling a story of what is going on inside. Many times, when our kids are reaching out for connection, they will behave in ways that create the opposite response. When a child is struggling to find positive ways to relate, our team of therapists come alongside them and their family to help them feel more understood, empowered, connected and loved. I believe in conducting therapy in partnership with families, pediatricians, teachers, and other specialists to ensure that each child receives a personalized treatment plan that is reinforced in all settings.

I work with teens, adults, and families on a variety of issues including parenting, relationship issues, family conflict, ADHD, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, life transitions, and more.
If you feel like things are harder these days, you aren’t alone. You’re trying to balance it all, keep your head above water, and make it look easy - after all - everyone else makes it look easy. But it isn't easy at all. I provide a non-judgmental space where you can take time to attend to you instead of everyone else. In my work with my clients, we explore the things that may feel too big or scary to say out loud and come to find that once we acknowledge them, we can work on making them better.

I believe that therapy offers a beneficial way to find a different perspective on difficult situations and that people who make the decision to see a therapist are looking for a way to improve those situations. We can always learn new ways to make our lives and relationships better. With empathy and compassion, I help clients find resolution to a wide range of personal concerns and psychological issues. I have worked at psychiatric hospitals, addiction residential facilities as well as outpatient settings and have over 25 years’ experience working with clients from a family systems approach.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
