We learned how to communicate from our parents and the television, maybe there is a better way? Uncover and process frustrating sources of anger and anxiety, we might not even know where it comes from to start.
Do you feel a knot in your stomach, get aggravated with family and coworkers when you'd rather feel relaxed and connected? Many of us struggle to manage stress or conflict at work and at home. What if it were possible to enjoy our relationships and handle conflict with grace and ease? If your struggling at work, in your relationships or just feel something is not quite right or as good as it could be in your life therapy could be helpful. Many of my clients report relief after just a few sessions.

I have experience helping individuals adjust to major life changes such as grief and loss, depression, anxiety, chronic illness, anger management, and other issues individuals encounter.
How can therapy help me with my problems? That is a question I am sure a lot of people ask themselves when considering therapy. One of my philosophies in life is that although we cannot always control our experiences and circumstances, we can choose our responses to them and delve into how they affect and influence us as humans. Presence is essential. I understand that I cannot change any individual other than myself, but I can act as a vessel or catalyst by truly understanding myself to help another person. My goal is to create an environment where you become the best you as possible by looking into all aspects of your life.

Life can really be difficult sometimes. Now more than ever, people are battling feelings of isolation, fear, anger, and sadness that may be affecting them in ways they can’t really understand. While dealing with these feelings can be very disheartening, it is important that you know that you are not alone. My name is Stephen Lopez and I am a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Texas. For several years I have worked as a mental health specialist for youth in school systems, medical facilities, and residential treatment programs.

CaLm DoWn!: Has anyone ever told you this before? I know, it really gets under my skin, too. Do I really need therapy? What's the point of sitting on a couch and talking with a str anger about my problems? I'm way too busy to be speaking with this guy for an hour anyway - - All of us have difficult moments in our lives that lead us to seek out therapy. Sadness can feel like it will never end. Anger is felt in our head, but we may feel judged by others for expressing it. If only there was a button we could press that would make us feel happiness. Though that magic button may not exist, we can work to create a new path together.

It wasn't supposed to be like this. You worked hard, you kept your eyes on the prize, you sacrificed, you never complained or made excuses. You had the work ethic, the grit, and the intelligence to overcome every challenge you faced. But for some reason that isn't working any more. You tell yourself to buckle down and power through, but you just...don't. You watch yourself drinking more, gaining weight, missing deadlines, lashing out at the people closest to you. It's all falling apart. You've outworked so many competitors and overcome so much, but now you're in a battle with yourself, and for the first time, you're losing.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
