Is motherhood more difficult than you ever imagined? Do you feel anxious, sad, find it difficult to bond with your baby or have scary thoughts? 1 in 7 women experience Depression or Anxiety during the Perinatal period. It is my passion to help individuals from contraception through postpartum. Here, you will be heard. You will be seen. You will be supported and you will be understood. You don't have to figure it all out at once, and most importantly you don't have to figure it all out on your own.

Gia Washington Readoux’s executive coaching and wellness consulting practice focuses on supporting women’s mental and emotional wellness and their needs including professional development, self-esteem, body esteem, stress management, and addressing burnout or other workplace issues plaguing individual or team confidence and performance.
“Warmth is essential! I always strive to create an environment of trust, compassion and respect where people feel validated and know they are heard. Whether it’s executive coaching or wellness consulting, we will have honest and powerful conversations in an empathic way for the greatest impact. I believe in getting to the truth sooner rather than later so we can address the real issues and challenges and begin to heal and rebuild from there. While working through issues with my clients, such as burnout, stagnation or being in a sustained negative environment, we establish goals and a path towards accomplishing those goals.

I am an LPC-A who is passionate about working with you to create growth and healing in your life. Even now as you consider therapy, you are already taking steps in the right direction, and I am proud of you for that. From personal experience, I know just how daunting it can be to start therapy and choose a therapist. Anytime we face the unknown, it can create discomfort, and that is okay. I am in your corner to support you and help find the right fit for you. (Under supervision of Grace Iacuone, LPC-S)

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
