I have seen time and time again the transformative impact of therapy on people of all ages. It can restore us to a place of peace and comfort or help us reach new levels of growth and fulfillment. It can help move us beyond the moments we feel stuck, overwhelmed, or alone. Likewise, it can help our children move past their self-doubt, difficulty managing their emotions, or sense of being lost in life. In either case, I want you to know you are not alone, nor were you meant to face the challenges of life without help. I will do everything I can to help you and your family embrace life, overcome challenges, and create possibilities.

Along the road, we all developed temporary tools to solve the problems in our lives. Unfortunately, we often forgot to stop using those tools, and they became "permanent." In the end, using the wrong tool to solve a problem does not make one's life better, only worse. In therapy, I work with adolescents and adults to re-tool and get more of what they want out of life. Let's get started!

I work with clients of all ages and backgrounds on a variety of mental health concerns including professional burnout, stress, anxiety, grief, family conflict, trauma, anger management, depression, motivation, men’s issues, non-normative communities, and self-esteem.
Change is inevitable. Pain is probable. Suffering is optional. Many of us already have the strength to manage change but need a little help finding the courage and confidence. That is why I take a collaborative, flexible, transformational, dynamic, and strength-based approach to empower clients to face life’s circumstances. I could help equip you with just tools to tackle your personal and professional obstacles or I can work alongside you and through dialogue help you to develop your own tools for long term sustainable strategies and an independent and purposeful life.

In the first part of my life, I had a long, successful, and fulfilling career in Sports Medicine. While working in the NFL and Division I-A Football, I was often in the position of holding an athlete’s hand moments after experiencing the trauma of a career-ending injury. My ability to stay calm in a crisis and to be mindfully grounded allowed me to hold space for my patients in moments of terrifying bodily injuries. This gift is something I’m grateful to now be able to use in therapy. My soothing, non-judgmental, curious, and nurturing demeanor creates a safe environment for therapeutic recovery work that highlights the connection

Welcome to Parenthood – where the expectations to perform, support, and find the right words can feel like a constant balancing act. Sound familiar? I’ve been there too. As a dad, I know Fatherhood can be lonely, but it doesn’t have to be a maze of stress and uncertainty. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by new responsibilities or unsure how to stay connected with your partner amidst the chaos, I’m here to help. The early stages of parenting are often full of joy, but they can also strain your relationship, shifting focus away from romance and connection. It's possible to find each other again at such a tumultuous time.

In life we experience unpleasant moments during our journey with ups and downs; sometimes it can feel more overwhelming rather than positive. It might look like dissolving relationships personal or professional, difficulty expressing emotions, or anger getting the best of you. It could be spending too much time in your head than living in the moment and missing out in life.

In our work together, I'll seek to provide an atmosphere where you feel understood. With empathy and curiosity, my aim is to help you understand the ways you have struggled, and are struggling. Painful, yet unprocessed emotions are often at the root of our suffering. These emotions need care and attunement, a "relational home." By experiencing these emotions together in psychotherapy, you will likely gain significant inner freedom, as you understand yourself more deeply and experience a reduction in your symptoms.

I use a conversational therapy where the patient and therapist collaborate together to find solutions. I believe the patient knows best where they want to go, and I as a therapist help to clarify how to get there. It is my belief that though in a given moment there may be overwhelming, confused or just frustrated feelings, the human spirit and personal resources provide the tools to find meaning and growth.

Your story is unique, your experiences unlike ANY other. The process is to find you as you are, and to journey together to where you want to be. My years of work with traumatized and grief-stricken clients and families have brought the conclusion that anxiety, depression, and interpersonal relationships are the barriers to a healthy self, to a meaningful and purposeful life. Determining the causes and our role in these barriers (overwhelming and unduly burdensome at times) will begin to get us unstuck. Circumstances likely have driven you to the point of therapy, but a great opportunity to regain control and find the healthy you.

Do you feel disconnected from your spouse-- perpetually trying "reach" him or her, but angry, sad or frustrated at your inability to connect? Or perhaps you find yourself distancing from your marriage partner, avoiding conflict in order to feel safe, only to find yourself "walking on eggshells." You feel the pain of disconnection with the person you love, and you feel stuck; maybe it even feels hopeless at times. If only you could re-discover the bond that somehow still exists beneath the rubble of fighting, avoiding and blaming. Or, possibly your struggles are more individual than relational?

My practice centers around teaching people principles on how to access their own innate psychological health, and how to utilize this understanding for their own well-being. This can include a healthier concept of self, a more productive way of viewing difficulties and overcoming challenges in life, and how to establish more meaningful relationships. I help client's suffering from depression, anxiety, attention issues, addictions, emotional regulatory disorders and relational conflict learn skills such as CBT, DBT, 3 principles training, and mindfulness to help better their lives. Teaching new skills is an integral part of my practice.

Pain can lead to the most profound feelings of isolation and hopelessness. I have experience working with individuals, families, and couples, helping people during the most vulnerable times in their lives and have seen first hand how unresolved and damaged relationships have negatively impacted people and caused pain. One of people's biggest regrets at end-of-life are the relationships they have neglected. One of my greatest passions is working with individuals and families to address hurts and impasses: being both witness and participant.

Are you stuck? You may find yourself stuck and unable to change recurring disturbing emotions, troubling thoughts and destructive behaviors. Past traumatic events may fuel painful feelings, disturbed thinking, relationship problems and hurtful actions. Eliminating ghosts from the past begins the process of enduring change and healing.

The client notices that I am wanting to understand more and more about what it's like to be her or him. Trust develops. I come to admire the client's willingness to dare a variety of words and feelings. S/he discovers the bolstering agency that comes with the exploration. S/he discovers that s/he can put me back on track if I misunderstand or misinterpret something. We come to be genuine and open about our experience of one another. I feel respectful and honored. Tears and laughter are both welcome . I accept BCBS (not Health Select) and, in some cases Medicare. $175 per session.

I work with adults seeking clarity and direction in areas in which they are stuck and experiencing difficulty. I provide support to men who are beginning to understand the importance of emotional and sexual health but need direction. I come alongside men and women experiencing anxiety and depression and explore new frames that might open up new possibilities. I am passionate about helping marriages and parents experience the abundance God intends.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
