Trauma. Anxiety. Parenting. Perfectionism. Do any of these topics cause you to feel stuck or like you aren't reaching your potential? Do you struggle to set boundaries with others? Does past trauma or abuse still trigger you at random moments? If you are coping with past trauma or current stress, we can work together to help you build coping skills or challenge the beliefs you hold about yourself that may keep you from moving forward. If you are a mom who is struggling with adjusting to parenthood, we can discuss all the emotions that come with your new role. I would love to work with you to discover contentment and confidence.

Areas of experience include anxiety, depression, grief, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, trauma, relationship challenges, emotional disturbances, spiritual challenges, and divorce.
My personal journey has been marked by both joys and sorrows, by growth and healing. Enduring the unexpected loss of a parent, battling negative self-perceptions, enduring abusive relationships, being hurt and betrayed by the church, the highs and lows of parenthood and marriage- these experiences have all contributed to who I am today. Through the beauty and pain of my life experiences, I have discovered the transformative power of inner resilience and spiritual connection. My experiences have led me to open Barnett Healing Center, where we provide a variety of services to assist in the healing journey of the mind, body & soul.

Life can tug us in so many different directions. Stress, trauma, and issues in relationships can leave us feeling alone, unseen, and isolated. We all crave to have a voice, to be seen, to be heard, and to have support navigating the complexities of life. Many of us have have not always had the support we've needed to make space for and understand our complex emotions.

I am a culturally aware and trauma-informed therapist.
Getting help is hard and I am proud of you for taking the first step! I enjoy working with individuals who struggle with self-esteem and identity. Maybe your lack of self-worth has caused you to fall into addiction, self-harm or other self-sabotaging behaviors. You may feel a fight between your brain and your gut, because you know it’s wrong, but it just feels like you can’t do anything different.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
