Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate, under the supervision of Dwayne Frei, LPC-S. I work with adolescents, adults and couples that are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression and just hard life stuff. My name is Monica Tolbert, I am a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) serving Police Officers, First Responders, Soldiers, Veterans, and their Family Members in Killeen, Texas, and the Central Texas area. I provide trauma recovery to those who are not receiving the quality care they deserve. I combined my experience with Journeys Counseling and Consultation which is the only behavioral health group in Killeen with extensive experience in trauma and PTSD resolution. We assist clients in overcoming trauma and developing emotional intelligence.

Life can bring storms that challenge us, creating different ways to try to calm the storm. I hope to help empower my clients to understand themselves, their bodies, & their needs to be able to approach the storms in a way that brings healing & calm. I specialize in working with children/adolescents and those with issues of body image (your view of your body, including size, racial identity, sexual identity, gender identity, abledness, age, and other views). Also, I work with all persons of ages to address concerns of anger, anxiety, social behaviors, self-esteem, sensory reactions, and adjusting to significant life events.

Whether you are seeking counseling for a specific reason, or you feel generally distressed and don’t know where to start, I will offer you a listening ear to process the things that are most important to you, and support you in working toward goals you might have. I have experience with clients from various cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and seek to provide a space that is informed, individualized, and validating.

I specialize in working with children/adolescents with a variety of presenting symptoms. I understand that children must be counseled in the context of their family system and incorporate family therapy in my treatment processes. I have experience working with sexually and physically abused children, adolescents, and adults and those struggling with trauma reminders. I also work with individuals struggling with depression or behavior changes following a change in relationship dynamics such as divorce or military deployment. I offer sessions with and without my therapy dog-in-training, a sweet Bernedoodle named Sullivan.
