My areas of experience focus on working with complex trauma, anxiety, depression, men's issues, family conflict, family of origin, severe abuse/neglect, sexual abuse, couple's, marital/premarital and PTSD.
Hi. My name is Robert and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S). I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Texas A&M International University in 1999 and a Master of Arts degree in Community Counseling from Texas State University in 2013. Since 1999, I have been working with many different populations and all ages in the mental health field, honing my skills as a clinician. It can be difficult to ask for support sometimes. I get that and strive to limit barriers to accessing therapy. Call me and let's chat.

I specialize in treating PTSD, panic attacks, anxiety, depression and dissociative disorders, sports trauma therapy, performance issues, relationship therapy and more without the use of medications.
Your treatment has a beginning, middle & end. I am trained and certified in many of the latest breakthrough treatments including EMDR and Brainspotting. I use these modalities because I have found them to be the most effective. The field of psychotherapy has come a long way since it began. We now know that it doesn't have to take as long as previously believed for permanent healing and change to take place. The term "neuroplasticity" refers to the brain's ability to change and rewire itself at any age or stage of life. Too often, clients participate in years of talk therapy and medication management without results.

I walk with those who have experienced military, first responder and personal trauma.
During one of life's emotional and spiritual cross roads my passion and mission became crystal clear. Succinctly, it is to nurture those seeking peace, joy and harmony. Before, during and after difficult and traumatic life events you may need more than the support of family and friends for life resiliency and wellness. Holistic wellness can be pursued by interweaving a nurturing therapeutic, spiritual and safe relationship with other life enriching and healing practices.

Whether you’re a parent unsure of what do to, an adolescent trying to find their place, or a child looking for a space to connect with your parent and to be a child, I am here for you!

I use EMDR, Attachment-based & Trauma-informed approaches, Trust Based Relational Intervention, Person-Centered Therapy, psychological education, Prepare/Enrich Premarital Counseling, & Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Life can be beautiful and wonderful! It can also be overwhelming and painful at times. Feeling understood, cared about & listened to are profound human needs that are often neglected. Starting therapy can be intimidating; however, having a supportive, safe & comfortable outlet can be helpful in working toward healing, growing and thriving. I am here to listen and help you process what is weighing on you with EMDR & other evidence-based approaches. I will encourage your strengths, offer information (knowledge is power) to help you grow, collaborate with you to form your goals and help you with practical steps to achieve those goals.

I specialize in healing from deeply-rooted trauma. If you've been in therapy before and still struggle with problematic thoughts, feelings, and behaviors which interfere in day-to-day life, a more comprehensive approach may help. Research has shown that present day mental health challenges which originate from earlier life experiences often require intervention with the parts of our system which hold verbal and pre-verbal conditioning. Using both cognitive (brain-focused) AND somatic (body-focused) interventions ensures that all parts of our body are integrated into the healing process.

My five areas of specialty are insomnia and other sleep issues, chronic pain, OCD, RODBT and PTSD.
You live in a world of rules. You like rules. Rules are good, right? Always work hard. Don’t be wasteful. Never give up. Do things right. But lately, it seems the rules aren’t working for you. So you try harder, dig deeper, push further. More control, tighter adherence to the rules. And things get, well, worse. Hi! My name is Jessica and I have been a therapist in Austin for almost two decades. I help people who have too much self-control. Huh? Self-control is GOOD. Yes…to a point. But too much self-control works against you. I have five areas of specialization and all five are different manifestations of too much striving.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
