Through my own life experiences, coupled with extensive training, I specialize in the areas of: child/adolescent development, ADHD, family conflict, infertility, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, anxiety, self esteem, and the impact of severe trauma such as suicide.
“The only thing constant in life is change,” Sometimes change is anticipated other times it is scary, lonely and not what we had in our plans. My goal as a therapist is to work together with clients to move towards a future that they want while processing the situation that led them to seek counseling and learn what can be done differently by using their existing skills, strategies and ideals or developing new ones. I strive to partner with every client in an individual, family or group setting as they navigate the successes, trials and tribulations of this crazy ride we call life.

I have experience working with a wide variety of populations, specializing in helping adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, grief, bipolar, ADHD, or substance use.
Have you ever looked at your reflection and wondered who you are? Do you ever feel lost or wonder where you are headed? Confession- I have. I realized later in life that my calling was to become a therapist. Long before returning to college, I received on-the-job training through my own experiences as a mother, wife, friend, and as an individual struggling with depression and anxiety. These experiences helped prepare me for my role as a therapist, along with losing my 34-year-old son in 2023. Just like my clients, I looked for a therapist to talk to, one who would listen and be able to understand where I was coming from.

I am passionate about helping those struggling with trauma and grief across the lifespan, including perinatal loss (whether from infertility/miscarriage/infant loss), and postpartum difficulties. Our life journey is often filled with many unexpected twists and turns, with some surpassing our natural abilities to cope well. Our American culture openly avoids acknowledging the profound depth of our human experiences. Tolerance for trauma and grief is time-limited and short-lived, because "this happens all the time". But what if we can learn to acknowledge the pain without shame, guilt, or judgement?

We have therapists (Licensed, Associates and Graduate Students Interns) who specialize in different age groups (teens, young adults, middle age, and elderly), constellations (individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy), and targets (pastors & missionaries, EMDR, affair recovery, blended families, veterans, grief & loss, etc.). If a client requests to incorporate Christian spirituality into counseling, our therapists are well trained to do so. However, we are incredibly respectful of our clients’ faith beliefs, including those who profess faith and those who do not.

Using an Adlerian approach, I want to encourage and empower clients to use their own strengths to attain their goals. I also specialize in sand-tray therapy-which is an effective intervention that helps clients better articulate their past trauma, feelings and emotions, and has been powerful in the healing of depression, grief, addiction, and anxiety in teens and adults. Our counseling center offers an Intensive Outpatient Program for substance abuse, to include individual and group counseling. Finally, I encourage the client to lead their own sessions to heal.

My process helps you resolve or learn to accept personal conflicts or challenges, acquire more adaptive problem solving and communication skills, change behaviors, or manage anxiety, depression or life changes, like divorce, illness, pain, or loss.
Life is changing every day. Before you know it another week or month has passed by. I encourage you to grow, adapt, and be the best you. You have to decide what you want your life to look like. No one else can do that for you. Once you figure that out, I'll help you get there. Or get through whatever you're going through right now in the healthiest way possible. I focus on you. What works for one person doesn't work for everyone; I don't believe in a cookie cutter approach to therapy. Don't wait to figure it out, or get through it, live your best life now.

As a therapist, I have experience working with various populations, including children and adults within the child welfare system, child abuse, trauma, crisis, depression, anxiety, and grief and loss.
Working with adolescents and adults looking to find hope and healing from their previous trauma is my primary focus as a mental health counselor. My goal is for my clients to see their abuse is not a life sentence; through therapy, they can begin to feel the burden lifted and experience glimpses of joy again. Through therapy, clients can expect to find skills to cope with triggers and feel the weight of their trauma lessen through space and processing.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
